Australian bowling all-rounder Ellyse Perry made 55 off 41 balls and then took 4/12 to deny India women a whitewash of the Twenty20 series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

On Friday, Indian women had made history by becoming the first women's team to win a series in Australia, when they won the second T20.

Winning the toss, India women chose to field first, and Jhulan Goswami continued her first-over form by taking the wicket of promoted wicketkeeper Healy off the first ball itself.

Captain Meg Lanning was the next to go, but she added 49 runs with Beth Mooney before falling to Rajeshwari Gayakwad for 26.

Beth Mooney made a brisk 34 off 34 balls before being dismissed by Deepti Sharma to leave the Australians at 75/3.

Gayakwad also accounted for Jess Jonassen (6) shortly after Grace Harris was run out by Harmandeep Kaur for 9. But Perry hit Jhulan Goswami for a six in the 19th over to enable Australia to score 11 runs off it. Then, Perry smashed Gayakwad for two boundaries and a six in the final over to take Australia to a good score of 136/5 in 20 overs.

Needing to chase this difficult score, India began confidently before captain Mithali Raj was bowled by Rene Farrell with the score on 33 in the fifth over. Jonassen then accounted for the other opener, Vellaswamy Vanitha, while Krishnamurthy fell to Harris with the score on 67.

Smriti Mandhana and Harmapreet Kaur put up a 27-run stand before Kaur was dismissed immediately after hitting a six. India only needed 42 off 39 balls when Kaur was dismissed, but struggled to keep up with the rate and lost wickets thereafter.

Though India were aided by small partnerships, the absence of a big innings and the need to stay abreast of the required rate was too much in the end, as the Indian innings ended at 121/8 in 20 overs.

Ellyse Perry was declared the Player of the Match while Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami received the Player of the Series award.
