It was a close escape for Ameya Vaidyanathan, London-based Indian-origin driver whose car crashed and turned multiple times during a British Formula Three race at Oulton Park in England over the weekend.

The Carlin Motorsport driver, who was lined up sixth on the grid for the first race of the weekend, lost four places at the start. South African Sisa Ngebulana at number 9 (Vaidyanathan was 10th), gained five places when the incident occurred, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The incident happened when Vaidyanathan was trying to overtake Ngebulana's HHC Motorsport Car but made contact with it and as a result turned and rolled on the ground multiple times, leading the race to get immediately red-flagged.

Vaidyanathan was taken to the medical centre for a precautionary test. The British F3 released a statement saying, "Vaidyanathan is alert and conscious, and is being held in the Medical Centre for further observation as a precaution." They released another update within 30 minutes that said, "Ameya Vaidyanathan has been released from the Medical Centre.

After the incident and the medical test, Vaidyanathan said, "I felt quite a few big hits but I have no idea what direction they were in or where they came from. Once the accident finished, I was in shock but once that initial traumatic period had subsided, it was all ok."

Vaidyanathan has been given four penalty points after being excluded from the race results.
