Dronacharya awardee Ramakant Achrekar believes Sachin Tendulkar timed his ODI retirement perfectly, but hopes his most favourite and famous pupil continues to serve the country in Tests.

Dronacharya awardee Ramakant Achrekar believes Sachin Tendulkar timed his ODI retirement perfectly, but hopes his most favourite and famous pupil continues to serve the country in Tests.

“Sachin Tendulkar has served the nation for a long time, and the timing of his ODI retirement was just right. We are certain that he will continue to play Test cricket and pass on his experience to youngsters.” Achrekar said at the opening of of the Nyuzmakers Cricket Challenge 2013.

When asked about the next generation of players, he simply said, “There is no one like Sachin!” Unable to express his feelings in words due to ill health, the octogenarian was helped by close family friend Milind Gurav.

Nyuzmakers Cricket Challenge, an underarm tournament for the city’s jewellery retailers will be held from January 7-10. The innovative box-cricket tournament with an unusual set of rules promises to be very interesting.

Said Navin Sadarangani, proprietor of Nyuz and chief organiser of the tourney, “The tournament is into its third year and it’s amazing how every retail staff member and jeweller looks forward to the competition. It helps them regroup.”
