They say anything can happen in the game of cricket. This is definitely taking things too far!

In a bizarre turn of events, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was forced to impose 10-year bans on two club cricketers after they protested against poor umpiring decisions by deliberately conceding runs and losing matches.
In merely four legal deliveries, an unbelievable 92 runs were conceded by Lalmatia Club’s Sujon Mahmud in his side’s Dhaka Second Division Cricket League match against Axiom Cricketers last month. Mahmud achieved this feat by over-stepping the popping crease 15 times and sending down deliveries so wide of the batsman that they sped to the boundary.
A similar stunt had been pulled off in an earlier match by Fear Fighters Sporting Club’s Tasnim Hasan, who conceded 69 runs in seven legitimate deliveries.
“This incident has dented the reputation of Bangladesh cricket and we have taken a stern step because this was important for us,” Bangladesh Cricket Board director Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying by local newspaper the Daily Star.
This ridiculous way of protesting against umpire decisions also led to the two clubs being barred indefinitely from the competition. Along with that, the captains, managers and coaches of both teams have been banned for five years.
“They willingly tarnished the image of Bangladesh cricket,” Sheikh Sohel, the BCB’s disciplinary committee chief, said. “A bowler won’t be able to do such a thing without the order of their team management. From the whole investigation we realised that it was done to hurt Bangladesh cricket.”
Adnan Rahman, Lalmatia Club secretary, admitted to the offence but argued that the umpires did not even allow his team captain to see the coin after the toss. The umpires in questions have also been suspended for six months by the BCB.
