Mo Farah became the first man in 40 years to hold two Olympic long distance titles, Neymar led the Brazilian team to football glory, while a female Russian shot putter was added to the list of athletes to be blacklisted and stripped off the title for doping.

Other attractions for the day included Margarita Mamun for rhythmic gymnastics, Aditi Ashok for golf besides others in athletics, wrestling and basketball.

Aditi maintained her position for the first two days, with her cards of 68-68 keeping her in the top-eight of the field. Her achievements, although not sufficient for a medal, was a big progress for India in golf. The 18-year-old, who turned professional only six months ago, finished the week at seven-over 291.

Neymar struck the winning penalty as Brazil claimed a first ever Olympic football gold medal with a victory over Germany on penalties at Maracana Stadium. The Olympic gold was the only major title to have escaped five-time world champions Brazil in their history. International Olympic Committee on Saturday stripped Russia's Yevgeniya Kolodko of her London 2012 Games shot put silver medal — the second medallist from the contest to be disqualified for doping.

The IOC said a new test on Kolodko's sample had found two banned substances -- the turinabol and the growth hormone ipamorelin.
