Match updates - India vs Sri Lanka: 2nd Test match, Day 1: Rohit Sharma falls in last over, India six down

Stumps: India finish on 319/6. Rohit Sharma was LBW by Angelo Mathews off the second ball of the last over for 79. It spoils what was a reasonably good day for India, making the match even stevens at stumps on Day 1.

Rohit Sharma has reached 67. I guess his place in the side is set for a few more Tests. Wriddhiman Saha has slowly proceeded to 18. India have reached 306/5 as stumps close in.

Stuart Binny is on his way to pavilion after only scoring 10 runs. Chameera takes a simple catch with plenty of time to position himself as Binny fails to put power in his shot over cover.

Angelo Mathews is trying all bowling combinations to break this strong partnership between Virat Kohli (71) and KL Rahul (79).

Both Indian batsmen are finding gaps in Lankan fielding and now appear to have gotten hang of Sri Lankan bowling.

Following skipper Virat Kohli, KL Rahul posts his Test half-century with a beautiful stroke between mid-off and cover.

India at 115/2 after 29 overs

We are back post lunch and so are the cricketers.

After 27 overs India put up 104 runs after the shaky start. Kohli and Rahul continue the partnership.

After 25 overs, Indian runrate has picked up to 3.73. Rahul and Kohli have steadied the ship after early wicktes of Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane.

It will be interesting to see how Angelo Mathews will break the partnership of 85 runs.

That was a big one. Virat Kohli hit it out of the park for Rangana Herath. It's a beautiful shot over mid-off

After 19 overs India at 74/2. Kohli (33) and Rahul (32) continue the partnership of 62 runs  

That's a close one. Dhammika Prasad's seam takes the inside edge and hits Kohli. A very close call.

Virat Kohli is leading by example. Both Rahul (23) and Kohli (22) are steadily building a partnership India is in strong need of. They contibue to take advantage of Chameera's mistakes.
