Is it the biggest day of you?
I was watching it on the net. I’m very excited. I’ve already uncorked the bubbly.

What’s your first reaction?
I’m delighted. I was not expecting this. I just wanted to be picked. All this money is a huge bonus. Given my past history of injuries, I did not expect to make money at all. I’m looking forward to joining the Kolkata franchisee and helping them in the competition.

And we thought your career was finished…
I am proud of playing for New Zealand. I worked hard last winter to make a comeback. I’m very disappointed with the way my Test career came to a halt. But I’m delighted with the way I’m going to finish my career. I still have a lot to offer.

KKR owners said you will be available for whole season.
That’s right. I may miss one or two games but I’ve retired from Test cricket. So I should be available for most part of the season.

You will be playing with Brendon McCullum…
I will be. That is a big surprise. He’s a great mate and he has already sent me a message of support. We have played a lot together.

You are injury prone...
Playing in India also is very different and difficult. But most of my injuries are because of playing Test cricket. I don’t see too many problems playing ODIs and T20.

Are you aware that KKR are the most high-profile team?
Yes, I am. I have followed IPL and KKR. Playing inside the Eden Gardens and in front of a large crowd will be a highpoint of my career. I can’t wait to play in the Eden. I have never played there. And I’m just looking forward to visiting Kolkata.
