India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20 Match Updates : India thrash Sri Lanka by 9 wickets to win series 2-1

Chandimal says that they scored too less runs. He says that the inexperienced side failed to strategise properly but emphasises on some of the positives from the series. 

R Ashwin is both man of the match and man of the series. A truly dream run for the Tamil Nadu leggie. 

Ashwin says he has worked on his fitness so that he can contribute in the field too. He says that variation is the key for a spinner to bowl in the first six overs, and early wickets always help. 

Rare smile from Dhoni as he comes to interact with Sanjay. Dhoni says he is happy with the consistency of the side. 

MSD says there is a good mix of experience and youth in this T-20 squad. He stresses on the depth of batting and presence of part timers. 

Dhoni happy with the build up in the run up to the T-20 world cup. He says any team can win the world cup. 

Rahane says that the wicket wasn't easy and they had to apply themselves. He gives credit to the bowlers for dismissing Lankans so cheaply. 

Over 14: Gunaratne continuing. Indians milking the bowling nicely. A clinical and professional batting display so far. 

Dhawan plays a paddle sweep but nearly ends up getting caught. India cruising comfortably. What a glorious pick up stroke from Dhawan. 

Wide ball outside off-stump and he just picks it up and hits over long-off. 

And Dhawan ends it with a bang, Dhawan hits a wide ball outside offstump over cover to finish the last rites.

Over 12: Gunaratne has gone round the wicket. Indians dealing in singles now. 

Rahane attempts a wild slog. Completely unnecessary. Very next ball, he plays an ugly shot. The ball lops up, but it is just not Sri Lanka's day. It lands in no mans land. Ind-65/1 

Over 11: Senanayake continuing. India can finish this off in a a jiffy but they are in no hurry. So far this has been a complete domination from team India.

Over 10: Gunaratne introduced. Military medium from him. This is hardly going to harass the Indian batters. 4 runs of the over.

Over 9: Siriwardana introduced. Brilliant reverse sweep from Dhawan for a boundary. Lovely match awareness to know where the fielders are precisely.

Over 8: Captain persisting with Chameera. Some good short pitch bowling from him. Lankan bowlers trying hard but they have too less to play with. Indians nicely rotating strike.

Over 7: Prasanna introduced. Sri Lanka need lot of wickets to get back. A very confident shout by Prasanna. But Dhawan survives as the ball pitched outside the leg stumps.

Over 6: Fernando strays down the leg and Rohit helps it down to the boundary. 

OUT! Rohit Sharma is gone. Tries to play across the line and gets trapped in front. Chameera gets the break. Rohit gone for 13. Ind- 29/1 after 5.2 overs 

Rahane is the new man in. He gets off the knock with a brilliant cut shot. Top stroke! IND-35/1 

Over 5: Rohit hits a massive six. Dances down the track and hits Senanayake over midwicket. There is some amount of turn but not enough to really trouble the Indians. IND- 25/0 

Over 4: Dilhara Fernando bowling his second over. An attacking field -set for him. He strays down slightly in the leg and Dhawan who was coming down the pitch has helped himself to another boundary.

Over 3: Short ball and gets the punishment from Dhawan. Poor bowling from Senanayake. Rohit and Dhawan trying to play normal cricket.

Not hurrying with the proceedings. One ball remains very low, just about negotiated by Rohit. 12/0 

Over 2: Fernando bowling the second over. Comeback after three and half years.  Is he the same bowler?

Over 1: Senanayake bowling the first over. Rohit and Dhawan opening. Dhawan offers no shot to a ball, confident appeal but no positive reply from the umpire.

Ashwin started the rot taking two wickets in the very first over. And it was all downhill for the Lankans from there. The other bowlers too backed up Ashwin's heroics who kept up the pressure. Indian fielding was top-notch and the pressure was always on Sri Lanka who wilted completely. 

Top performance from team India. They have completely vindicated Dhoni's decision to bowl first. Ashwin took four, Raina took two wickets. 

Nehra, Bumrah and Jadeja too a wicket apiece. For Sri Lanka, Shanaka top scored with 19. Perera scored 12 and all others scored in single digit. 

A complete mind-freeze from the Lankans. There is some turn in the pitch but in no way, a total of 82 is justified. Extremely poor batting from them. The newcomers failed to turn up in the deciding match. 

Can Lankan bowlers make things difficult for India is the thing to watch out for now. 

Over 18: Bumrah is back. He is having lot of fun here, bowling with no real pressure. 

Out! Perfect yorker and too good for Dilahara Fernando. He is gone for 1. Sri Lanka all out for 82. 

Over 17: Jadeja bowling. Can India get Lanka inside 100? Chameera manages to get a boundary. 5 off the over. SL-79/9

Over 16: Raina is bowling his second over and he has taken a wicket. Senanayake is caught behind. He is shocked. Gone for 8. Replay shows he didn't get an edge. 

Out! Perera tries to play a massive slog, gets a leading edge and a very good catch by Jadeja. Perera gone for 12. SL-74/9 

Over 15: Dhoni brings Bumrah back. Can he cleanup the lower middle order.  Top bowling from him. Senanaya and Perera looking to rotate the strike.

Over 14: Ashwin back. Can he be the first Indian to get five in T-20 cricket. Dhoni setting a very attacking field.  Perera plays him with respect.  Ashwin is bowling stump to stump, looking to trap the batsman. A lovely over from the spinner but he fails to get the fifth. But he has done his job for the day. SL- 69/7

Over 12: Pandya is bowling and Perera is batting confidently. Plays a lovely cut to the fence. Senanayake and Perera has to do the repairing job here. Perera is a naturally aggressive batter but needs to curb his instincts here.

Over 11: Another horror stroke from a Lankan player. Shanaka tries to run the ball down, gets an inside edge and is played on.

Over 9: Another tight over from Jadeja. Lankans survive massive lbw appeal and a half-hearted stumping appeal. Lankans need to stitch a partnership asap. SL- 50/6 

Over 8: Shanaka hits two consecutive six off Yuvi. One of a no-ball and he dispatches the free-hit too for a six. But Lankan euphoria is short lived.

Prasanna  tries to take a risky single and Jadeja enforces a stunning run-out. An under-arm throw from him and Prasanna gone for 9. SL- 48/6 

Over 7: Jadeja is introduced. And he immediately induces a faint outside edge, which Dhoni fails to take. 4 of the over. SL-33/5 

Over 6: OUT! Now, Nehra joins the party. He cleans up Siriwardana.

A pretty casual stroke from him, specially with Lankans in deep trouble. The ball was slightly low, and he tried to play an ambitious pull and failed to connect it. Gone for 4. 

Prasanna is the new man in. He manages to flick a ball to the boundary. Another lucky boundary for him. An inside edge which just goes past Dhoni to the boundary. SL-29/5 

 

Over 5: Wickets falling like nine pins here. Ashwin takes fourth.Gunaratne is gone. This looks like a dicey decision though. Raina has taken a catch in the leg slip. But the ball looks like only touched the thigh pad and had no contact with the bat. Batsman will consider himself unlucky. Gunaratne gone for 4. Wicket maiden from the tweaker. 20/4 

Over 4: Bumrah introduced. He will try to keep it tight to keep Lankans in the leash. Lankans haven't exactly played sensibly cricket here.  Bumrah is getting some decent pace here. Siriwardana gets boundary off Bumrah.

Over 3: Out!  Chandimal is gone. He tries a wild heave,  completely miscues a flighted ball and Pandya takes a good catch. The ball was in the air for some time. Chandimal gone for 8.

Over 2: Nehra is bowling the second over. Sri Lanka will try to play a bit conservatively after suffering double strike. 

Chandimal is taking the attack to Indians. One four over cover point, another one barely crosses the 30 yard circle and rolls to the boundary. SL-12/2 

Over 1: The match is about to start. Dilshan and Dickwella to open the innings. Dhoni has taken a massive punt electing to field after calling correctly. Let's see if captain cool gets this one right or not. R Ashwin to start the bowling. Little bit of turn in the pitch. 

OUT! Dickwella is out. Stumped by Dhoni off Ashwin's ball. He tried to dance down the track, completely misses the flight of the ball and Dhoni enforces a simple stumping. Gone after just scoring 1. SL- 2/1 

Chandimal is the next man in. And straight forward, an extremely close lbw call. The ball may have just pitched outside leg stump. 

OUT! Veteran Dilshan is dismissed. Misses the line of ball, and gets trapped in front. Umpire raises the dreaded finger after thinking for some time. Dilshan gone for 1. SL-3/2

India has won the toss and surprisingly Dhoni has decided to bowl first. Clearly, Dhoni is backing on his top-order to chase down whatever Lankans pose. 

India has decided to field an unchanged eleven. Sri Lanka has made three changes. Kapugedera is out due to injury. Dickewala and veteran Dilhara Fernando has come in. Asela Gunratne is making his debut. According to Lankan captain, 160 is the par score.
