India enter the semifinals and Bangladesh's fairytale is over.

Cricket World Cup 2015 Quarterfinal India v/s Bangladesh: India thrash Bangladesh to storm into semi-finals

India dominated 80% of the match. They were in strife between the 10th and 30th over or so, because Bangladesh were bowling really well. From a likely score of 250, Rohit and Raina took India to past 300. Rohit was very patient under pressure and played a great anchoring innings. Then the Indian bowlers bowled with precision, as they have all through the tournament. India enter the semifinals and Bangladesh's fairytale is over.

Rohit Sharma is the Man of the Match. He says this hundred is important because it was made in a difficult situation.

Over 45

OUT! That's the end of the match and India are in the semis. Another short ball, pulled behind square, but safely into the hands of long leg. Bangladesh have been bowled out for 193 in 45 overs. Shami nearly dropped it but then caught on the second attempt.

OUT! Short ball, and Rubel Hossain holes out tamely to short leg without scoring. Bangladesh 193/9. Yadav gets his third wicket.

Over 44

OUT! Quick ball full outside off, tailender plays it on the backfoot with bat pointing towards point. Neat edge to Dhoni. 8 down. 192.

Wow. Ball was slow, full and wide outside off, the batsman charged down the pitch and targeted square leg. Missed the ball by the distance between Mumbai and Amsterdam. Looked very comical.

Direct hit. Bangladesh run a quick single and Jadeja gets the direct hit, though there was no need for it. Just some machismo.

Mohit Sharma (6-33-0) is back. He bowls a very short, throat high ball that the batsman uncomfortably plays to mid wicket. There was no midwicket else that was out.

Over 43

OUT! This time he tries to clear cover, but hits it straight to the man instead. Bangladesh 189/7 after 43 overs.

FOUR. Slog swept for four, good quality stroke this time.

FOUR. Down the track, Sabbir gets the leading edge and it flies to third man boundary for four/

Reverse sweep from Sabbir, misses everyone and Bangladesh get a bye.

Over 41

5 off the over, Bangladesh 174/6 after 41 overs.

FOUR. Slammed over wide mid on, not timed brilliantly but it goes for four anyway.

Over 40

One off the last ball, Bangladesh 169/6 after 40 overs.

DROPPED. Dhawan's antics have cost him once. Slashed to cover point, where Dhawan dives forward like a hero but spoons it. 

Ashwin into his last over, conceded 29 off 58.

Leading edge off the last ball, Bangladesh 165/6.

Short but faster and straighter, pulled to deep midwicket, Dhawan dives near the fence, misfields. He first saved two then conceded one. Still a net gain of one run.

Slow, short ball, tennis ball bounce. Nasir swings and misses.

Bangladesh have again resorted to playing the defensive game as if they have no hope left.

Full toss outside off, batsman can't get it away. Bangladesh 159/6 after 37 overs.

FOUR. Short and wide, caressed through the covers for four.

Fast, fullish length on middle and off and Nasir barely keeps it out.

Three runs off the first two balls.

Shami (2/28) now has the ball. Dhoni just going through the motions now it seems.

FOUR. Three boundaries off the over. Short, wide and slammed by Shabbir through point for four.

FOUR. Driven through wide mid on for four, the fielder chases in vain.

The ball came too quickly onto him and he was in no position to play that stroke. Even his bat was at the wrong angle.

Single down to long off, as the mandatory powerplay looms. Bangladesh have to attack in that phase. It's do or die now.

FOUR. Another slog sweep from Rahim fetches him another boundary. Perhaps that's the only stroke he should try. Bangladesh 127/5 after 33 overs.

Maybe not? Launched over the extra cover region, two fielders converge on the ball and Kohli reaches it first. Two runs.

Jadeja into his 5th over. The way Bangladesh are batting, they seem to have given up already.

Ashwin into his 9th over. Bangladesh are finally getting some easy singles, but it's a little too late. It's time for some big booming boundaries instead.

Now he sweeps and gets two at deep square leg as the throw from Mohit Sharma is poor.

Ashwin bowls his 8th over, and he's conceded only 19. Rahim continues to defend.

OUT! Shakib al Hasan is gone, and Jadeja gets his first! Slightly short but too straight to cut, Shakib cuts and finds short third man/ wide gully. He made 10 off 33. Bangladesh 104/5.

Shortish ball angling in, and Shakib plays it straight down the ground for one.

Another maiden over, Bangladesh are digging a ditch for themselves. 90/4.

Shami has gone past Mitchell Starc as the leading wicket taker (17) in the World Cup.

Drives, misses,  and Mushfiqur Rahim is yet to get off the mark in 7 balls.

Eight balls for no runs as Shami continues to bowl tight lengths.

Maiden over, brilliant line and length. Bangladesh 90/4.

From the other end, Ashwin bowls five dot balls. Big pressure on Shakib now.

Short ball, new batsman really ducks under. Shami has his tail up now. Bangladesh 90/4 after 21 overs.

OUT! Now he's played a foolish shot! This ball was short as well but it was chest high, and closer to the body. Sarkar tried a dab-cum-late-cut-cum-upper-cut but only managed to guide it into a diving Dhoni's hands. Bangladesh 90/4.

FOUR. Brilliant upper cut, that ball was short and seared upwards, Sarkar played it off his nose almost, beats short third man comfortably.

Sarkar dabs a length ball down the wicket and looks to run, but the ball is on the pitch so he gets back.

Three off the over, Bangladesh 86/3 after 20 overs.

Two off the over so far, after 4 balls.

Ashwin is giving the ball a bit of air unlike his Bangladeshi counterparts, but he's slipping in the flipper and flatter one every now and then.

Bangladesh 83/3 after 19 overs.

OH! Short ball, throat high, Sarkar swings but its too fast onto him, he miscues it and Shami lunges to catch it with one hand but it's just wide of him.

Great ball, good length and comes back in, very close to the stumps, Shakib tries the cut and misses, almost an edge.

Shami bowls quick, low, and outside off. Shakib swings and misses.

OUT! Mahmudullah hooks a short ball, he miscues it and Dhawan on the third man boundary is unbalanced as he attempts to catch it. He nearly spoons it, but regains balance and takes it on the second attempt. Then, just for a bit of style, he throws the ball in the air, lands inside the boundary, comes back in and takes the catch again! They are checking on the foot though during the second attempt. It's safe, the hoarding hasn't moved. Bangladesh 73/3 and the big fish is gone.

Slow short ball, Sarkar goes for the upper cut and misses.

First ball is short and swiveled to long leg for one.

Mohammad Shami is back.

Slower ball for no run off the last. 63/2 after 15.

Drives, no timing, in the air but just over short cover for one.

Another slow short ball, another swing and miss. The required run rate will start getting to Bangladesh after a while.

Mohit continues, slower ball, short, and Soumya Sarkar's pull meets thin air.

Driven, gets the outside edge and Bangladesh get two to wide third man.

Mahmadullah is using the paddle sweep to neutralise Raina. 3 runs off 2 balls so far.

Gives himself room again, inside edges flies down to fine leg for 1. 

FOUR. Risk taken by Mahmudullah, clears his stumps and goes straight down the ground over mid on for four. It was almost six.

Raina was introduced in the previous over and he bowled a maiden.

On a length outside off, turns away, and Sarkar turns it for one down the ground.

Carrom ball, cut away but straight to gully.

Dhoni decides it's time for Ashwin to bowl. 2 dot balls first up.

Bangladesh 44/2 after 10 overs.

Great ball, swings in and straightens, huge inside edge from Sarkar saved him.

Short on off stump, Sarkar gives it the full gun but misses.

FOUR. Sarkar arches back to a slow short ball and plays the upper cut, just gets enough on it to carry the ball over the keeper for four.

Swing and a miss outside off stump. Bangladesh 39/2 after 9 overs.

Strays on the hips and Sarkar gets his first runs, a single to wide fine leg.

Lazy waft outside off from Sarkar finds air and the crowd ooohs.

Bangladesh 38/2 after 8 overs.

FOUR. Mahmudullah plays a wide ball outside off over the point fielder for four. Wasn't in total control but fine enough to clear the fielder.

Now a wide ball, India have bowled a lot of wides lately.

Beats him! Mohit Sharma bowls fast, straight, and the ball shapes away just at the last moment. Mahmudullah played a defensive stroke and missed.

Mahmudullah is in, and this time he has huge pressure on his shoulders.

OUT! Imrul Kayes is run out! What has happened here! Soumya Sarkar refused the run but Kayes was almost shaking his hand, had to go back but the throw was brilliant from Shami and Yadav was brilliant to flick off the bails. Clearly run out, Bangladesh lose both openers. 33/2.

Bangladesh 33/1. Tamim Iqbal out for 25 off 25. Big blow.

OUT! Tamim Iqbal has got an edge and Dhoni collects in front with a sit-down dive. Umpire has given it out but now wants to check with the third umpire whether Dhoni collected it cleanly. He did!

Nudged away into the leg side for one.

No run off the last ball, Bangladesh 31/0 after 6 overs.

Wild shot, Tamim has decided to take on the Indian bowling, the edge flies down to third man but drops way short.

Short ball, Tamim pulls, gets it over midwicket and Bangladesh run three.

FOUR. Tamim walks down the pitch, goes hard at the ball which spoons over the infield on the off side for four.

Mohit Sharma comes on to bowl after Shami took a tonking in the 4th over.

Maiden over. 3 overs gone, Bangladesh 7/0.

Good ball, short and into the chest, Kayes fends a little uncomfortably.

Imrul Kayes goes down the track and tries to hit Yadav out of the ground, completely misses - line and length.

Good, true Aussie bounce. Tamim leaves. Bangladesh 7/0.

On middle and off this time, flicked behind square for two runs.

Even better, closer to off, Tamim leaves again.

Searing ball outside off, good bounce and seam through the air, Tamim leaves.

Swing and a miss outside off stump.

Pulls the line up, and the length fuller. Tamim leaves. Bangladesh 3/0 after 1 over.

Pulled behind square, Rahane runs hard and stops the second.

Yadav continues bowling just short on off stump. What will be Bangladesh's approach? The pitch seems to have evened out a bit.

Pulled into the leg side and Bangladesh get two.

Good line, slightly short but on off stump.

Umesh Yadav will open the bowling.

The Indian side is out in the middle. In their famous huddle.

The break will be short because Bangladesh finished their overs really, really late.

India have reached 302 after 50 overs. It didn't look possible when they were 99/2 in 25 overs and then when they lost Rahane. Bangladesh bowled really well for about 30 overs but lost the plot thereafter. Great innings from Rohit Sharma, though he should have been out earlier. India should win this match, but you never know.

Over 50

Yorked again, only one off the last ball. 6 off the last over, but India have scored 302/6 in 50 overs and that is a big score.

Yet another single to wide mid on, just 5 off the over so far. 26 balls for the last 50 runs.

Another good ball, but India have reached 300 with a single to mid wicket.

Ashwin on strike. Slogged straight down the ground, no timing and India get one.

Single off the first ball. Catch is dropped at third man but Jadeja sends Ashwin back from the second.

OUT. Dhoni swings hard at a short ball, miscues, and the ball goes towards point instead of on the on side. It is not dropped for once. India 296/6 after 49 overs.

Dhoni slogs into the on side, gets two. Jadeja is 20 off 7. Dhoni, 6 off 10. Go figure.

FOUR. Terrible misfield! Biffed towards deep midwicket, the fielder running in from the deep puts in a dive, and looks foolish as the ball goes under him and into the fence. The captain Mortaza is livid. He is dreadfully angry.

FOUR. Yorked, but Jadeja was moving quickly, and flicked the ball behind square for four.

Over 48

India 283/5 after 48 overs.

FOUR. Now that is not luck but good shotmaking.Down the pitch again, Shakib bowls wide, Jadeja still manages to beat cover with his shot, and there is no one on the angular fence.

FOUR. Very lucky. Jadeja just flew down the pitch, ball turned away at the last instant. Jadeja got a touch and the ball went downhill for four.

Down the track again, yorks himself, biffed straight down the ground for one. Not great timing.

Dhoni advances down the track but Shakib drops it short and Dhoni has to curtail his shot.

OUT! Bowled him! Perfect, perfect yorker and Rohit can do nothing about it. Out for a fabulous 137, that wicket might have come just a little too late for Bangladesh. India 273/5.

Gives himself room, can't clear cover. It dropped short of cover.

FOUR. Swung again, this time over square leg, one bounce into the boundary.

SIX! Short outside off, Sharma pulls it hard over deep midwicket for six.

Short ball, too short for Rohit to play. The keeper claps but umpire calls it wide.

Slower ball wide outside off but Sharma hits it straight to point.

FOUR. Good length outside off, driven through extra cover like it was easy meat. Rohit is playing an epic innings. India 261/4 after 46 overs.

Dhoni pulls to long leg but only gets one.

Now he gets a single through the off side.

FOUR. Crashed through midwicket for four, India are back on fire.

SIX! Rohit Sharma scoop-lofts a full ball on off stump for six over long off. What a brilliant shot to a fast bowler.

FOUR. Beautiful drive by Rohit, through covers, splits the field. He also beats a long on who was running towards deep extra cover as fast as he could. India 241/4 after 44 overs.

MS Dhoni comes out to the middle.

OUT! Raina goes for the big heave over the on side, gets a top edge, which goes extremely, extremely high. The keeper is right under it, and he takes a very good catch. Raina 65 off 57.

Raina goes straight down the ground, there is a long on who comes running in but it falls short of him. India get two. 

Misfield at mid off gets Rohit a single.

Mortaza is in his last over.

Raina gets a single to the on side.

Just four off the over, India 233/3.

Just two off the last four balls. 

Slammed down the ground for one, India need Rohit to go on the attack now.

Two to sweeper cover and ROHIT SHARMA HAS REACHED A CENTURY. Big century, in a quarterfinal under pressure.

Out...or is it? No ball called! Rohit smashed a full toss straight down the throat of deep midwicket, but the square leg umpire said it was a no ball for height! That was marginal.

FOUR. Good ball, Rohit gets the edge, kinda controls it a bit at the end by opening the face, and it speeds to the third man fence.

Raina calmly dabs the ball down into the leg side for one on resumption.

We are back after the rain break. Rohit and Raina walk out again. What a wicked, momentum-breaking 5-minute break. Or is it? 

The rain is coming down, to put a dampener on India's momentum. 186/3 at 38.1 overs.

Extremely, extremely good running. How do you tap to mid on and run two? But Rohit and Raina just did it.

Quick single off the fourth ball and India are slowly climbing back into the game.

FOUR. Bad ball from Rubel, very rare. Way outside leg, full toss, but Raina still had to do well to place it to the long leg boundary.

SIX! Raina goes down the track, and launches Shakib over long on. He didn't get in the middle of the bat but he hit it hard and just cleared the fielder, even on this big ground.

Well played. The ball suddenly rose into Raina after pitching, he took his bottom hand off and played it behind the wicket for one.

FOUR. Late cut between gully and short third man, beautiful placement.

Outside off, Raina is nonplussed, plays away from the body, nothing shot, but misses.

It's not out, ball pitched outside leg. JUST.

Raina gets a long way across, and ball crashes into the pad. Bangladesh go up wildly in appeal, and they have reviewed it!

Four singles off the over, India 147/3 after 33 overs.

Nasir continues and India get just one off the next three balls.

Single off the last ball, good over for India after quite a long time. 143/3 after 32 overs.

Two very, very quick runs from Rohit Sharma, he slipped while turning back from the first, but the throw was ordinary again.

Wide ball, poor bowling continues from Mortaza.

Poor throw, overthrows and India get two.

FOUR. Mashrafe Mortaza comes back after drinks, bowls short and wide and Rohit gives it the full gun, slammed through point for four.

FOUR. Thick edge off Raina's bat, two slips in position but the ball flies wide of them for four. India 126/3 after 30 overs.

Wide and full outside off, single down to third man.

Full outside off, Rohit drives it hard and fast down the ground but straight to mid off.

Short and wide outside off but Rohit doesn't time it at all.

Short ball from Taksin, Raina swivel-pulls to fine leg for one.

Single down to the on side, gets Rohit back on strike.

One of the umpires as been injured and is going off the ground.

FOUR BYES. Bowled down leg and it's four byes as no one manages to get anything between it.

Suresh Raina comes in and faces three dot balls.

It really is Rohit Sharma's time for a big innings now.

OUT! Ajinkya Rahane is gone, he tried to go over mid off and couldn't clear it. Mid off took a good catch running back. Rahane's struggle is over, out for 19, India 115/3.

Just three off the over, India 108/2 after 27 overs.

Single down the ground and Rohit brings up his fifty. 

Rahane pulls hard into the leg side but finds the fielder right on the boundary, just one.

Rohit goes down the track and hits it through the covers for one. Moves to 49, but he has gone very slow over the last 20 balls or so.

FOUR. Outside off, Rahane drives without conviction and gets an edge. There is no slip so it flies for four.

Second fifty takes 98 balls. Rahane finally gets India there with a couple to the deep on the on side.

Four dot balls off the over so far, things are getting a little tense for India.

India are stuck. Big time. Just can't get into a scoring rhythm at the moment.

Swept hard, can't split the field behind square. India 99/2 after 25 overs.

Three singles off the first three balls and then two dot balls.

India are struggling to regain momentum after the second wicket. The lively pitch and strong wind are not helping matters.

Taksin comes back, two overs for 10 runs

Rahane is beaten by the turn and speed, plays down the wrong line but gets an edge to short third man for one.

Swept hard by Rahane, not fluently, huge appeal, but it was off the bat.

Driven through the off side and India get two.

Just two runs off the over, India 89/2 after 22 overs.

Rubel continues. Terrific figures - 5 overs for 11 and 1 wicket.

Flicked to deep midwicket for one. India 84/2 after 20 overs.

Inside edge, Rahane doesn't move his feet and goes hard at the ball. The ball bounced low.

Rohit plays a short arm jab into the deep for one.

Single off the third ball. India's run rate has dipped alarmingly, from about 6 to just over 4.

India 81/2 after 19 overs.

After Rahane's single, Rohit dances down the track and then has to defend. Ball hits the pad and there is an appeal which is turned down.

Shakib al Hasan bowls, Rohit gets a single on the on side.

Outside off, Ajinkya Rahane leaves, wicket maiden. India 79/2 after 18 overs.

OUT! Virat Kohli is gone, wide outside off stump and Kohli drives without much foot movement. Got an edge to the keeper. Bangladesh back into the match.

Fast short ball, Kohli ducks under it.

Driven down the ground for one, end of the over, 78/1.

Virat Kohli walks in, and immediately gets two to sweeper cover.

OUT! Shikhar Dhawan is out stumped against the run of play. The ball turned, Dhawan went for a booming drive, missed and the keeper flicked off the bails really fast. Dhawan was stretching and his back leg was just outside the crease.

Single off the last ball and it's time for drinks, India 72/0. 

Single on the on side and India finally get a single off this over.

Short ball, Dhawan tries to hook and misses, Bangladesh go up in appeal big time. Long appeal but the umpire doesn't budge.

Oh, what a short ball, too quick for Dhawan, he was nowhere. He didn't duck, didn't sway, and got no time to pull it either. Ball just hits his bat hard and goes down.

SIX! Down the track comes Rohit Sharma, slams it straight over the bowler's head, and a flat six! India 70/0 after 15 overs.\

Nasir continues even as it gets quite cloudy in Melbourne.

Just three singles off the over so far. Will India's patience break? Nasir is doing well in bowling quick and flat.

Rohit had premeditated about going for a big heave but has to control his shot as the ball is quick and of good length outside off.

Dhawan tries to cut, without feet, is late on the shot, misses.

Short ball, pulled away into the deep for one.

Rohit seems to be falling over while playing certain shots outside off stump.

Rohit sweeps in a strange manner, he was only half down. Splits the field on the on side but a good dive near the ropes at deep square leg means he will get only 2.

Shakib al Hasan comes on. Full toss first ball, and Dhawan missed it. It was a 'Happy Birthday ball' says Dravid in the commentary.

Short outside off, sits up, Rohit goes straight down the ground but with no timing, just a single.

Single down to long on, was in the air for a bit.

Fast ball outside off, knicked, but goes on the third bounce to the keeper.

On leg stump, Rohit flicks it away, it was in the air but landed in no man's land behind square, and just for a moment. India get two.

This time Rohit's big booming drive finds air and there is a collective oooh from the crowd.

FOUR. Short ball, Rohit pulls, just well enough, to the deep square boundary for four.

Oh. Went for a drive, the ball came on slower. Rohit was on the straight drive but played with a soft bottom hand eventually.

Oh dear. Rohit edges as he pulls out of the drive at the last moment. Falls short of first slip. The pitch is offering movement through the air.

Dean Jones is out in the middle for a pitch report. He says the pitch won't assist spinners, but the average score batting first is 290. The highest successful chase here is 297. 7 out the last 10 games have been won by the side batting first. He says it is not an easy pitch to bat on because of the hugeness of the ground and the slightly fast-bowler friendly.

Welcome to the LIVE coverage of the 2nd quarterfinal - India v/s Bangladesh. The match will begin at 9 am IST at Melbourne.

Bangladesh have created a stir this World Cup by storming into their first ever knockouts by beating England. But unless they beat India in Melbourne, Bangladesh will merely retain their reputation as giant killers. A victory against India however, will catapult Bangladesh into the major leagues, even though it may not make them one of the favourites for the World Cup.

Bangladesh have a terribly uphill task on hand if they wish to make the semifinals. They must beat a team which is not just unbeaten in the tournament, but arguably the best as well. India have surprised one and all, especially by their rampant bowling attack which has not let any opposition score over 287 as yet. Here's the match preview

Shakib al Hasan seems to know this only too well. He has called this quarterfinal the biggest match Bangladesh have ever played. There is no shortage of confidence though, and Bangladesh's coach thinks his side is really good.

But the side's leading bowler, Mashrafe Mortaza, has no idea what a good target for India would look like. One big positive though for Bangladesh is the form of Mahmudullah, who's made 2 centuries on the trot. Shakib wants him to keep performing.

The build up to this game has not been without its share of chauvinistic belligerence. Bangladeshi fans in particular have gone all out on social media to claim that their side would beat India in the quarterfinals. But it has also led some to hack Indian websites, most notably that of former Union Minister and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

India on the other hand, have almost no issues to deal with. The only area of concern may be the patchy form of Rohit Sharma, which means India's opening has failed almost every time. But this would be a great day for Rohit to come into form. Team India are on a rampage, and it would take something special for Bangladesh to overcome them.
