Umesh Yadav took two wickets in the 24th over to put India on top. Then Shami took Afridi and Wahab Riaz in one over to turn the match on its head.

World Cup 2015 India v/s Pakistan: India win by 76 runs; now 6-0 in World Cups against Pakistan

Virat Kohli is the man of the match for his 107. He says being compared to Sachin Tendulkar is a huge compliment. He says the last two days have been tough because everyone was talking about the match. He praises Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan for their performances. He says the fans are too loud, he thanks them and promises to keep working hard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

India win by 76 runs.  They have batted, bowled and fielded better today than in any match this season. They face South Africa next, who seem a bit low on confidence right now though they beat Zimbabwe.

Pakistan have once again lost a World Cup game to India. They are now 0-6 against India in World Cups. When India were restricted to 300, it looked like Pakistan had some chance. But apart from a decent 2nd wicket stand, they had nothing extraordinary to show for. Misbah ul Haq once again becomes the fallen hero, but this time he cannot be faulted for anything. A superb 76 in vain.

Over 47

OUT! Sohail Khan can't resist any more, he goes after a full ball, but it is slow and just loops high in the air. Umesh Yadav catches it, he can do no wrong today. Pakistan have been bowled out for 224 and lose by 76 runs.

Many Indian fans waving now. Pakistani fans are despondent but sporting enough to pose for cameras. 6-0 nears.

Mohit is into his 9th over but it's just a formality now.

Three dot balls from Umesh. Two of them were bouncers but only because Sohail Khan was ducking into them.

Umesh Yadav to bowl his last over. 2/45 so far, brilliant by his usual standards.

Slower short ball just outside off, Misbah chooses to leave. Now a low full toss is biffed straight to deep midwicket.

Wide ball. That was very, very wide, should have been called 5 times.

Short ball from Yadav, Wahab Riaz tries to pull but is hit in the midriff.

Over 40

Swings hard, and the ball just goes the stumps. Misbah had done it there. Pakistan 193/7 after 40 overs.

One run off the next two balls. Indian fans are still on edge. Pakistani fans have just begun to find their voice.

FOUR. Driven down the ground for four. Two great balls followed by one bad one.

OUT! Afridi is out and India sense blood. 22 off 22. Full toss by Shami and Afridi backs away, trying to go over the off side. He gets a top edge and the ball flies to the edge of the circle on the off side. Kohli takes a great catch. Pakistan 149/6.

Over 29

Five off the over, Pakistan 124/5 after 29 overs.

Two off 4 balls off this over so far.

Well directed slower bouncer, Afridi has a swing at it across the line and misses.

Mohit Sharma is back

Over 28

Third maiden over from Ashwin. Pakistan 119/5 after 28 overs.

Vicious spin from Ashwin, he is really getting the ball to turn. Misbah misses the line but the ball struck him outside off.

Over 27

He goes again, and the ball falls just short of a diving sweeper cover. Pakistan 119/5 after 27 overs.

SIX! Jadeja continues and is greeting with a huge six by Afridi over deep midwicket.

Over 25

Single off the last ball, Pakistan 105/5. What a turnaround.

OUT! And he's taken another! Sohaib Maqsood wafts at a ball outside off and is caught by first slip. Pakistan freeze, India in a thrall. 102/4.

Shoaib Maqsood comes in to bat. Imagine Umesh Yadav taking a wicket.

OUT! Ahmed Shehzad is out, Umesh Yadav has struck gold! Short and wide, and Shehzad has tamely played it into the hands of Jadeja at point. Jadeja nearly dropped it but then took it on the second try.

Umesh Yadav comes back into the attack. Immediately played through midwicket for one.

Over 21

Five off the over, Pakistan 97/2 after 21 overs.

India have been bowling a couple of good overs and then a few bad ones. The trend seems to be continuing.

Ravindra Jadeja continues.

Over 20

Pakistan after 20 overs are 92/2

FOUR. Another boundary. Down the track, plays inside out and over mid on.

FOUR. Short ball, rare poor delivery from Ashwin. Shehzad rocks back and cuts it through point. It races for four.

FOUR. Slower ball, Shehzad picks it well, and slams it over mid off four four

Mohit Sharma bowling his 5th over. He's given just 12 off 4 overs. A long time since someone bowled like that for India.

Over 14

Maiden over from Ashwin, Pakistan 58/1 after 14 overs.

The partnership has made 19 off the last 41 balls. They were 28 off 27.

R Ashwin has been introduced into the attack. Good thinking from Dhoni, for once.

Over 13

Single off the last ball. All the mayhem in that over comes to just 5 runs. Pakistan 58/1 after 13 overs.

Down the track again, this time Mohit follows him and yorks him. Good thinking.

FOUR. Ahmed Shehzad charges down the track, so Mohit bangs it in short. It makes no difference to Shehzad, who absolutely canes it over midwicket for four.

Over 12

Short ball from Raina, Shehzad who is 12 off 27 balls cuts it hard, but doesn't get the timing right. Just two. Pakistan 52/1 after 12 overs.

Mohit Sharma continues.

Over 10

Good over, just 1 from it. Pakistan 46/1 after 10 overs

Decent over so far, 1 run from 4 balls. Make that 1 from 5. Can Shami end well?

Shami continues. How about a change of bowling, Mr Dhoni?

Over 8

Two dot balls to end the over. Pakistan now motoring along at 44/1 after 8 overs.

Now a very wide delivery. That should have been 3 wides.

Why does Shami bowl one bad bowl every over? Short ball with no pace, smashed for four.

Over 7

Last ball gets driven through covers, but the diving cover slows it down. Just a couple. Pakistan 39/1 after 7 overs.

Mohit Sharma is bowling some good deliveries in between some wild ones.

Slower short ball on the free hit, mishit but over mid off for two.

No Ball of the second ball, free hit coming up.

Short ball, called a wide, that's a bit too high.

Beautiful delivery now by Shami, holds its line and forces Haris Sohail to play. He misses, luckily for himself.

Mohammad Shami continues, and is driven through covers for two.

Over 5

FOUR. Smashed through the off side and India have lost the initiative. Pakistan 28/0 after 5.

FOUR. On middle and leg, and flicked away through the leg side for four. Shoddy over.

One for the short ball, and called a wide. Very short ball and Dhoni had to jump a mile high to catch that.

FOUR. Well, he just got slammed through gully for four. Short ball is the culprit.

Umesh Yadav will continue. Can he be a little less expensive today?

Over 4

Sohail plays out the rest of the over cautiously. Pakistan 14/1 after 4 overs.

Haris Sohail is the new man in. Ramiz calls Shami's ball a thunderbolt. That may have been the best ball he has bowled all season.

OUT! Short ball, comes too quickly onto Younus Khan, who half-fends, half-pulls. He gets his eyes off the ball, and the ball grazes the gloves, loops up and Dhoni takes it gladly. Pakistan 11/1.

Mohammad Shami is on for his second over.

Over 2

Shami bowled a tidy over. Pakistan seems to be emulating India in looking to get set in, rather than play rash strokes early in the innings. Pak- 4/-0

Over 1

Shehzad and Younis are opening  the batting for Pakistan. This is a new opening pair specially drafted for today's match. Pakistan have a mountain to climb, and they have started cautiously. Pakistan 2/0 after first over.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

India have achieved a reasonable, defendable score of 300. But they are at least 20 runs short given how they were placed after 45 overs. India managed just 27 off the last five as wickets fell in a heap. Will Sohail Khan's 5/55 be a match winning effort? This is still a tough target for Pakistan, but Brett Lee said in the morning that 300 is a par score on this wicket.

Over 50

Shami backs away, scoops it over the off side and India run hard for two. India have reached 300, huffing and puffing. 300/7 in 50 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane is the new batsman but Dhoni will be on strike. Sohail Khan will bowl the final over.

Over 49

OUT. Jadeja swings wildly across the line and the ball crashes into his off stump. India lose their fifth wicket. 296/5 after 49 overs.

Yet another single. This is a good over from Wahab Riaz. Swing and a miss now, just three off five balls from this over.

Dhoni did not score off the second ball. He got a single off the third but then Jadeja fails to find the gap on the off side. Just a single.

Jadeja hits it straight to the fielder and runs a very dangerous single. Direct hit and he would have been miles out.

Over 48

SIX. Low full toss, and it was almost as if Pakistan were offering India a boundary. Dhoni swings across the line and deep into the stands behind deep midwicket.

Single off the fifth ball. India desperately need boundaries.

Ravindra Jadeja has come in, Rahane stays back in the hut.

Outside leg stump, Raina can't connect, and it's not called a wide because Raina had moved to the off side. The crowd boos.

Over 47

Just four runs off the over. India 283/3 after 47 overs.

Just a single off the fourth ball, and two off the over so far. Now a short, slower ball is scooped to fine leg. Raina didn't get the timing right.

FOUR. Full ball now, much better than the last one and Dhoni biffs it through wide mid on for four.

Dhoni now defends the first ball he plays, and it was a full toss.

MS Dhoni walks in to bat. Kohli's innings was not very fluent but it was very crucial.

OUT! Kohli is out, he gets an outside edge off the bowling of Sohail Khan which carries to the keeper. Kohli made 107 off 126 balls. India 273/3.

Over 45

"He did bowl a yorker, but to the keeper", says Ramiz Raja. India 273/2 after 45 overs. The run rate is now over six runs per over.

What was that? This is a game of cricket not golf. That ball slips out of Irfan's hand and goes way over Raina's head.

Too short again from Irfan, but Kohli's pull goes straight to deep midwicket and only a single.

FOUR. Short ball and Raina manages to get on top of the bounce to slam it over square leg for four.

High full toss, way over the waist, Kohli plays it down to third man. The square leg umpire won't call it a wide and the crowd boos.

FOUR. Moves outside off and flicks it to fine leg for four. India must get at least one boundary per over.

Raina tries to deposit the next ball over the midwicket fence but misses.

Pakistan ask for a review. The snickometer shows absolutely nothing. It should have been a wide but the umpire can't change his decision.

Way wide outside leg stump, Raina moves away and goes for the pull but misses. Appeal for caught behind but Pakistan are denied. But it's not even called a wide.

Over 43

India go back to singles after that euphoria. 245/2 after 43 overs.

Single off the next ball and it's a fifty for Suresh Raina off 40 balls.

SIX! And now Raina launches Afridi over mid wicket for six.

Single, and that's a CENTURY for Virat Kohli. What a time to make a century. It has not been the most fluent one, but certainly the most important.

Over 42

A single from Raina and a single from Kohli means he moves to 99. India 235/2 after 42 overs.

SIX! It's the commentators curse...or boon. Down the track and this time he doesn't get as close to the pitch of the ball. Launched into the stands.

Three runs off the first two balls. Raina is now looking to attack but not quite getting his timing right.

Yasir Shah is back.

India managed just 25 runs off the powerplay, and they didn't even lose a wicket.

One run off two balls so far. India really need to pull up their socks.

Over 39

Single off the last ball. India 213/2 after 39 overs.

Irfan strays down leg and Kohli flicks it fine easily for four.

Over 38

Now Riaz pulls up during his run up and the crowd boos. Single off the last ball and India reach 206/2 after 38 overs.

Beautiful delivery from Riaz, Kohli missed it completely and the keeper had to dive to hold it. Sailed over the stumps and cut Kohli in half.

Another short ball, pulled again but they get only a single this time.

FOUR. Raina pulls hard, very hard. Doesn't fully get hold of it, but manages enough to score a boundary through deep midwicket.

Over 37

Raina goes for a pull off the fifth ball but can't get it away. Just two off the over so far. Single off the last ball brings up the 200, but it's just three of the over. 9 off the last three overs.

Almost a run out as India look for a non-existent single.

Over 31

Five runs off the 31st over, as Raina tries to get into the groove. India 170/2 after 31 overs.

Last over before the drinks break, as Afridi continues and India get a single.

Over 14

Kohli pulls hard into the on side, doesn't get everything on it and they run a quick two. Defended off the last ball, India 62/1 after 14 overs.

Single into the on side behind square.

Dhawan slaps hard, in the air, but wide of the diving gully fielder. India get two.

Kohli inside edges a drive to mid on. Now a single to the on side.

Wahab Riaz comes on to bowl for Pakistan.

Over 13

Four off the over, India 56/1.

India continue milking Afridi. This ploy nearly worked out with Kohli's dismissal though.

Over 12

FOUR. Short ball, sat up and this time Kohli was confident. It pulls it, down the ground, through mid wicket for four. India 52/1 after 12 overs.

Kohli still looks diffident as he defends to cover.

Another mix up between the batsmen, and they manage one.

Dhawan has crept up to 25 and incredibly looks the best of the lot right now.

Over 11

Shahid Afridi is distraught.

Oh...he was almost out! Loses patience, lifts the ball down the ground in the direction of long on, and the fielder running in spills the catch. India 45/1 after 11 overs.

Virat Kohli continues to look nervous. No run off the next three balls.

Milked for a single off the first ball.

Old pro Shahid Afridi comes into the attack. Good move by Pakistan.

Over 10

Virat Kohli edges a single to third man. The next ball comes in to Dhawan who against misses it and it hits his body. India 42/1 after 10 overs.

The criticism begins on social media.

Virat Kohli on strike as Haris Sohail continues. Kohli looks nervous. Extra bounce did Rohit in, confirms technology. Just after this:

Over 8

Oh. Kohli comes in and tries to cut the first ball he faces. Gets an outside edge, but the ball bounces to first slip. A single off the last ball and India are 35/1 after 8 overs.

OUT! Anti-climax! Rohit Sharma is gone, shortish ball, comes quickly onto Rohit, who gets a top edge on the pull. Doesn't go anywhere. India 34/1, Rohit made 15.

Over 7

Rohit plays the ball smoothly into the off side. Almost a boundary. India 33/0 after 7 overs.

Now an inside edge and they attempt a quick single. A direct hit at the batsman's end would have seen Rohit run out.

SIX! First six of the match, short ball does the trick for Shikhar Dhawan. Pulled hard into the leg side, and though he didn't get hold of it, it carried beyond the rope.

India need to get a bit aggressive. It's a very cautious start.

Over 6

Short ball, Dhawan has trouble. He fends it away awkwardly but gets an inside edge. India 23/0 after 6 overs.

Haris Sohail continues and Dhawan gets a single to third man off the first ball. Single off the third ball by Rohit.

Over 5

FOUR. Slightly full delivery, Rohit is in good touch. Finds the gap between point and cover point. India 21/0 after 5 overs.

Now Irfan goes over the wicket, the ball angles in and is left alone by the batsman.

Second ball is left alone, and the third is short but leaving the batsmen. Rohit leaves.

FOUR. On middle and leg, and Rohit flicks it through midwicket for four. It was in the air for a while but nowhere near the fielder.

Over 4

On leg stump but Dhawan misses out. India 13/0 after 4 overs.

FOUR. First boundary of the Indian innings, Dhawan finally gets it right, slashed through point who went spread-eagled. The crowd roars.

Half pulled down the ground, intelligent shot but Dhawan can't fully beat mid on. Just a single. Now Rohit gets a leading edge to cover and they run one.

Haris Sohail continues. Dhawan still can't get the timing right, as he biffs one to cover. It's been off all season.

Over 3

After 3 overs, India are 7/0.

Oh. Short ball, came hard on to Dhawan who dropped his wrists at the last moment. The ball ballooned in the air but went wide of second slip for two.

Another short ball, fended away by Dhawan to backward short leg.

Short ball, Dhawan thinks for about a fraction of a second and then lets it go. Keeper collects it and there's an appeal. Useless appeal.

Single off the first ball, again to square third man. No straight runs for India yet.

Over 2

Last ball is left alone as Dhawan resists temptation. India 5/0 after 2 overs.

Slightly wide outside off stump, Dhawan slashes hard, but straight to point. India are still to really get going.

Outside leg stump, wide called, and the crowd cheers. There are a lot of Pakistani fans, but they are overwhelmed by the number of Indians.

Played into the on side and India get one. Sohail was asking for a review on the first ball!

Haris Sohail is the bowler now. Shikhar Dhawan gets an inside edge but is safe.

Over 1

Played and missed, oooohs from the crowd, the keeper spooned the take. India 2/0 after 1 over.

Dhawan gets a run off his first ball, which is a good sign.

First runs of the fourth ball, played down to square third man and Rohit wanted a second but slipped.

Third ball finds the bat but it's played to mid off for no run.

Warm up delivery outside off, left alone by Sharma. Second ball is also in the channel outside off and gets the same treatment.

Let's go, says Virat Kohli on the countdown clock.

Rohit Sharma is on strike, he's marking his guard. 7'1" Mohammad Irfan is the bowler for Pakistan.

Defending champions India are all set to play their first match in the 2015 World Cup against arch-rival Pakistan in Adelaide Oval. To say, that Team India is going through a bad-patch will be an under statement. After nearly three months in Australia, the team looks jaded and often devoid of idea when put under hammer by the opposition. Yet Team India will try to keep a clean slate and maintain the unbeaten record it enjoys against Pakistan in World Cup matches.

For that to become a reality, the batting line-up needs to fire. Much will depend on the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina, who are all match winners in their own right and are known to come good in crunch situations. Yet, Virat Kohli is the biggest weapon India possesses to numb the formidable Pakistani bowling attack. It is a matter of concern for the team that Virat Kohli and Captain cool MS Dhoni haven't really played to their potential in the limited over fixtures in the lead- up to this World Cup. Indian batting has to provide a cushion for the bowling, which looks listless in absence of Ishant Sharma. Even though MSD said that all players are fit, there is a gloom of shadow over availability of prodigal swing bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. India is likely to go for two spinners in Ashwin and Jadeja. Shami and Umesh Yadav look to be certainty. Stuart Binny will probably chip in as the bowling all-rounder.

World Cup: No injury issues in the team, clarifies captain MS Dhoni

Pakistan on the other hand possesses a formidable bowling attack led by Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz. Absence of Ajmal though is a big blow for 92' cup champions. The batting is a blend of youth and experience but it betrays a certain vulnerability which can be exposed by Indian bowlers if they manage to get some early breakthroughs. Over-all, both teams look evenly matched and finally it may well boil down to a battle of nerves than skill

Misbah-ul-Haq positive that history and records are bound to change after Indo-Pak clash

From the time fixtures for World Cup 2015 was announced, the match-up between arch-rival India and Pakistan was touted as the marquee match of the tournament. It is predicted to attract the largest number of television audience ever for a game of cricket.  But will the actual match live up to its high-profile billing or will it be a scrappy affair between two mediocre sides. For team India it has been a long summer with very little to show for their efforts. A win on Sunday will be a magic potion to heal all the wounds and get the World Cup campaign rolling.
