Australia 221/4 in 52 overs.
Play stopped due to bad light as Australia trail by 187 runs

51 overs- 218/4
Yadav bowled a maiden to bring some respite
Australia trails by 190 runs after Indian bowlers leak runs
47 overs- 208/4
Umesh Yadav gives India the breakthrough they were desperate for. Dismisses Shaun Marsh for 32 off 70 balls. R Ashwin takes a brilliant catch that is flying above his head. Ashwin made no mistake as his well-timed jump helped a frustrated Indian side get the much-needed wicket.
45 overs- 199/3
DROPPED CATCH! Are you serious? Ajinkya Rahane dropped Shaun Marsh and this will cost India dearly. A mistake which cannot be afforded at a time when India is struggling to get more wickets.
Well-deserved half-century for Steve Smith.
43 overs- 193/3. A controlled over with a much better line and length by Varun Aaron
40 overs- 179/3
Ashwin was handed a thrashing as runs flew all around the park. 16 costly runs of that over.
Conceding a boundary almost every over may cost India. Poor bowling effort.
39 overs- 165/3. India need a wicket to break the Smith-Marsh partnership as Aaron struggles.
35 overs- 148/3
Today on Day 2 India lost six wickets. This will cost India. A few more runs on the board would have helped pile up runs.
Need wicket or two before end of day's play... Cmon boys!! #INDvsAUS
— Shreya (@ShreyaParanjape) December 18, 2014
Ishant Sharma bowling a visibly much-controlled over.
A much-needed wicket would put India back in the game.
A wicket or 2 here can really turn the game India's way #INDvsAUS the Indian mastermind @msdhoni must be thinking dt as well
— Waqar Orakzai (@WaqarOrakzai) December 18, 2014
34 overs- 147/3. Ashwin bowled a good over to contain Smith, except the last ball which gave Australia a double.
32 overs- 142/3
Ashwin has more flight on the ball. Bowls a maiden over as Shaun Marsh struggled.
31 overs- 142/3. Australia trail by 266 runs.
TEA
Losing the third wicket at the stroke of tea means Australia will have two fresh batsmen on their return. Home side will be disappointed after Watson threw away his wicket. He was combining well with Rogers at a rapid pace and India ended both their runs. Australia trail by 287.
24.5 overs- 121/3
India had a fruitful session after the bowlers started off on a wrong foot.
Fantastic session, I would reckon. Both the teams had their say but India took out three batsmen. Crucial. #IndvsAus
— Priyank J Shah (@Cric_PJS) December 18, 2014
OUT! Umesh Yadav bowls a scorcher of a delivery that forced Roger to play down the legside which was nicely collected by Dhoni. The ball got Rogers' gloves. CJL Rogers c Dhoni b Yadav 55 off 79 balls
10:25 IST Thursday, 18 December 2014
22 overs- 115/2.
Ashwin touted to be a game changer as he brings in turn and bounce on his deliveries.
Half-century comes up for Chris Rogers- 52 off 74 balls. His 5th test match fifty.
20 overs- 98/2
Australia's new test captain Steve Smith comes in to bat.
OUT! Whatacatch! Watson comes down the track as he looked for the big hit over mid-on, but slams it low to the right of the fielder, and Dhawan pulls a blinder off Ashwin's over. He scores 25 off 29 balls. Fans in a cricket-frenzy nation at the moment seem happy with the way Ashwin is bowling.
Good call by Dhoni to keep the field up and Ashwin lured Watson into that shot .. Good stuff by india #INDvsAUS
— Aadit Kapadia (@ask0704) December 18, 2014
18 overs- 92/1
Ashwin was effective as he bowled a maiden over to test the patience of Rogers who hoped to make the most out of it while at the crease.
Aswhin has now been introduced into the attack. Let's see if he can get something out of this.
17 overs- 19/1. India continue to bowl with a renewed hope of claiming a wicket.
What a shot by Rogersand it reaches the boundary ropes with much ease. It almost seemed effortless complemented by good timing.
India has set a tight slip cordon with the hope that pacers may force the batsmen to play in the slips. Bouncers and dangerous deliveries fly contiously.
Aaron brought into the attack.
It is the drinks break! It is already time to refresh in a soaking Gabba test. Rogers- 25 off 48 balls, Watson- 23 off 23 balls.
16 overs- 81/1
Captain Cool Dhoni is a restless man

15 overs- 75/1
Need a more systematic approach to the bowling as runs flow smoothly and with much ease for Oz batsmen.
Yadav lets off 9 runs and this will only make it difficult for the visitors.
14 overs- 66/1
Watson could have been in trouble out there! Ishant Sharma bowls a wonderful delivery that compels theAussie batsman to play to the slips.
Ishant Sharma was unlucky as his appeal for a LBW was turned down.
13 overs- 64/1
Yadav needs to start bowling a varied line and length as the Australians have started to read into his bowling.
Umesh and Aaron's average speeds are greater than Johnson's speeds but Johnson didn't get many wickets too! #INDvsAUS
— JITS (@jitendra87) December 18, 2014
12 overs- 57/0
Ishant Sharma has been a little expensive till now. 4 overs- 27/0
India need more wickets at regular intervals to remain in this game before Australian batsmen get set and take on the Indian bowling attack. India have scored 408.
India need at least 6 more wickets before tea to be back in this game #INDvsAUS
— Rohit Lodha (@rohitshahmi07) December 18, 2014
10 overs- 51/1
Good bowling by Aaron to keep pressure on Watson. Bowling in good areas with fine pace.
Varun Aaron bowled a beautiful delivery to Wtson who had no idea and was befuddled. That goes for a four as he tries to somehow evade it. Ball hits the top edge and races to the boundary.
Shane Watson comes in to bat.
8.3 overs- 47/1
OUT! Great start for India as Umesh Yadav dismisses 'dangerman' David Warner. A big breakthrough for India. DA Warner c Ashwin b Yadav 29 off 28 balls
gone .. warner.. no hundred this time #INDvsAUS
— spandanknr (@spandanknr) December 18, 2014
8 overs- 43/0. A costly over by Aaron (10 runs). Two boundaries scored.
Warner 25 off 25, Rogers 16 off 25
Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke are the leading run scorers in test matches at Brisbane. Both of them have a good average too
7 overs- 33/0. Trail by 370 now.
Umesh Yadav gave away 4 runs. He needs to combine well with other bowlers- Ishant, Varun Aaron and R Ashwin
Indian bowlers need to bowl a tighter line to restrict Australian batsmen.
David Warner might prove to be dangerous as seen in the first and second innings both in the 1st test slamming centuries.
2 overs- 6/0. Australia trail by 402
1 over- 5/0
Australia batsmen David Warner and Chris Rogers come on to the field and for India Ishant Sharma will open the bowling.
LUNCH! India- 408 in 109.4 overs
India has batted well but now they need to back it up with some good bowling.
India might be disappointed with the 408 from where they started today, but they would've taken it from where they started y'day.#INDvsAUS
— Sambit Bal (@sambitbal) December 18, 2014

India have only lost three test matches when they've gone past 400- won 18, drawn-42.
OUT! Nathan Lyon picks up one more. Umesh Yadav tries to slam one for a six over a long boundary rope but gets caught by Rogers. UT Yadav c Rogers b Lyon 9 off 21 balls.
Ishant Sharma walks in to bat.
OUT! India lose ninth wicket as Varun Aaron takes a long walk back to the pavillion. Scores 4 off 11 before he was dismissed by Nathan Lyon. 407/9 in 108 overs.
Play extended by half and hour as its the last pair out there. No point staying in there now. Just go at everything. #INDvsAUS

#INDvsAUS Congrats to Hazlewood for getting a 5 for on debut
— Baba K Rebbapragada (@cricketluvers) December 18, 2014
Hazlewood 33rd Australian to pick up 5-wkts on Test debut. Third after Brett Lee and Jason Krejza to do so against India.
Great bowling by Hazlewood. 5-for on Test debut! Bowled consistently today & got his rewards... Well Deserved 5 for.. #AUSvIND
— Suresh K Bijarniya (@cric_SKB) December 18, 2014

— Cricket CasanovaBuzz (@cricketsourabh) December 18, 2014
That delivery was too good for Ashwin. Hazelwood has been fantastic this morning especially. Time for an MSD assault? #INDvsAUS
— Arjun Rangarajan (@Hungarious_Jun) December 18, 2014
WICKET! Ashwin's fine run is halted as he is caught by Watson off Hazlewood's delivery, scores 35 off 41 balls. Finally the Australians are bowling good length.
102 overs- 383/6. Dhoni 24 off 45, Ashwin 33 of 38
And the fans pour their heart out and express love for Ashwin like true fans. He has now had a partnership of 55 from 58 balls.

— Soumitra Bengeri (@soumitrabengeri) December 18, 2014
99 overs- 373/6. There's a little more spice in the way Mitchell Starc is bowling this morning.
So, Ashwin, apparently has the better batting average between the two batsmen on crease. #IndVsAus 39.6 against 38.61.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 2nd Test between India and Australia at Brisbane. The day will begin at 5:30 am IST.
India dominated proceedings on Day 1, scoring 311/4 on a bouncy Brisbane wicket. Mitchell Johnson was not at his best with the ball, and Mitchell Starc also failed to live up to expectations. Only Josh Hazlewood took two wickets conceding just 44 runs. Crucially, Nathan Lyon took just one wicket, that of Murali Vijay. However, this was not before Vijay had scored 144.
Apart from Vijay's heroics, Ajinkya Rahane has scored an unbeaten 75 so far. But it is Rohit Sharma's apparent good touch that will be most heartening to India. At stumps, he was not out on a fluent 26. Here's the match report of Day 1.
India will enter Day 2 looking to reach a score of 500 or more. This may not be so easy however if they lose a wicket early. Dhoni is coming back from injury, lacks match practice and is not known to be a fan of pacy tracks. Nevertheless, anything over 400 should put India in an advantageous position when they come out to bowl.
The only good news for Australia comes from off the pitch - Michael Clarke has undergone successful surgery for his hamstring injury and his career may not be over yet. But since Clarke cannot bat or bowl for Australia either in this Test or possibly even in the rest of the series, the news is mere consolation for a bad first day at the Gabba. If India manage to score another 150 runs and take a few Australian wickets by the end of Day 2, Australia's iron hold over the Gabba may be in serious jeopardy.
