As the game goes along questions on India's bowling grow. The game plan for the bowlers is not as planned as they gave away too many runs, a high economy rate.
Mohammed Shami- 21 overs- 99 runs
Varun Aaron- 19.4 overs- 100 runs
Ishant Sharma- 25 overs- 71 runs

A hundred for Aaron... I don't really understand what is he trying to bowl. #INDvsAUS

Ishant Sharma, the pick of the Indian bowlers has been bowling well to disallow the Australian batsmen from getting too many runs. The 99th over he bowled was a a maiden one.
98 overs- 391/6
Varun Aaron is fit to bowl today after his hamstring problem came back to trouble him yesterday. The lanky pacer bowls wonderfully to let just one run off his over
95 overs- 382/6
Michael Clarke (returned back from an injury scare)- 74 off 100 balls
Steven Smith- 86 off 149 balls
Ishant Sharma bowled a good line and length last over to give away just one run
Welcome to dna's coverage of Day 2 of the 1st Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. We will be resuming live match updates at 5:30 am IST.
The first day ended with the match slightly in favour of Australia. The home team racked up 354/6, with David Warner leading the way with an emotional 145 off just 163 balls. For the full match report, click here.
Warner went on to say that this was perhaps his best ever innings, paying subtle tribute to Phillip Hughes, who passed away last month after his helmet failed to protect the impact of a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match.
It would have been much better for Australia though had they not lost a flurry of wickets towards the end of the day. From 345/3 they ended at 354/6. That is actually seven wickets down because Michael Clarke was retired hurt with a recurrent back injury after making 60.
The Indian bowlers mostly struggled to keep the runs down, with the exception of Ishant Sharma. Sharma though, has just 1/56 to show for his efforts, though he was the best bowler on display. Varun Aaron was the most expensive, conceding 95 off his 17 overs for 2 wickets. Mohammad Shami took 2/89 while the debutant Karn Sharma took 1/83 in a decent performance.
India will be looking to bowl out Australia for under 400 if possible, but Steven Smith looks solid at 72 not out and Siddle and Johnson are no muts with the bat. Day 2 will be crucial for India if they are to retain any hopes of a victory in Adelaide. Here's our full coverage of Day 1.
