India performed reasonably well at the Commonwealth Games 2014, Glasgow grabbing 64 medals against the 2010 edition's 101. Athletes did well and brought back home medals, lots of respect and pride. Amidst all the fanfare and glitz at the CWG 2014, Kylie Minogue was a star performer at the closing ceremony of 12-day long tournament.Some brought name, some brought shame. Two people brought shame to the entire nation with their acts of misbehaviour, sexual assault and drunken driving sparking nationwide outrage after athletes toiled hard to win medals.

After Yogeshwar Dutt (men's 65kg freestyle) and Babita Kumari (women's 55kg) produced fine gold medal winning performances, Vikas Gowda finally broke the deadlock in a jinxed athletics where India was left dry and was yet to open their account. The The 31-year-old US-based Gowda, elated the moods of many Indian fans as he picked up the yellow metal in men's discuss throw with an effort of 63.64m at a rainy Hampden Park. Meanwhile Kidambi Srikanth struggled for 57 minutes before edging past Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne 20-22, 21-16, 21-12.
In the Women's Singles Indian hopeful P.V. Sindhu won comfortably against Sr Lankan Thilini Hendahewa 21-14, 21-14 in just 26 minutes. P.C. Thulasi defeated Canadian Rachel Honderich 21-12, 21-7 to move into the last eight.

Shooting- After a few more Indians shot medals home, as many as 5 medals secured last night the count has risen to 17 medals coming from shooting events alone at the XX Commonwealth Games 2014.
Harpreet Singh bagged Silver in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's Finals.The 33-year old from Haryana did not disappoint in the 2010 edition either held in Delhi having won two gold medals.
India's Sanjeev Rajput and Gagan Narang bagged a silver and bronze respectively in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men's Finals. Narang also bagged a silver in the 50m Rifle Prone Men's finals.

Amit Kumar, Asian champion of last year started the haul with a 6-2 win over Welson. Amit ran up a 4-2 lead in first period and consolidated that further in second to complete the 6-2 victory.
19 Year old Vinesh Phogat brought home the second gold. Competing in women's 48 kg category she defeated England's Yana Rattigan 3-1 in the final.
The third gold was probably the most expected one. Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar was in its usual dominant self even though he competed in the 74 kg category this time. The victory was particularly sweet as he defeated grappler from Pakistan Qamar Abbas by easily pining him.
The day could have ended perfectly but Rajiv Tomar failed to emulate the feat of his fellow countrymen. He was outclassed by Canada's K Jarvis 0-3.

After the impressive show from wrestlers, India is now in the fourth position in the medals tally. India has 10 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze currently. Australia is in the top spot with 30 golds. India's men hockey team lost 2-4 to Australia.

India hopes that the Sports Ministry takes their medal-winning ability and acheivements into consideration and makes a sincere effort to hone their skills by providing better infrastructure, equipments and financial assistance to churn these sportspersons into world class athletes.

Indian Women's Hockey Team registered a 14-0 historic win against minnows Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). T&T were handed a thrashing in one of the worst, shocking defeats in the Women's Preliminary Round at the Glagow National Hockey Center. It was raining goals for the Indian side as Jaspreet Kaur and Deepika Thakur scored a hattrick each. India are now set to take on South Africa in their next encounter on July 30.
In a completely lop-sided match, India made mincemeat of the Africa nation as they smashed as many as nine goals in the first half itself, before pumping in five more after the breather.
The Trinidadians' leaky defense let them down as eight Indian players entered the scoresheet at the Glasgow National Hockey Center.

Omkar Otari continued India's power-packed performance in the weightlifting arena, clinching a bronze in the 69kg category to take the country's medal tally in the sport to six on the third day of the 20th Commonwealth Games. Besides, Rajwinder Kaur bagged a bronze in women's +78kg judo competition to add to the three medals that India have won in the sport. With seven more medals, India took their overall medals tally to 17 with five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals and were placed fifth on the medals table.

BREAKING-Indian shooters Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul on top in the finals with 186.3 and 184.8 respectively.
TABLE-TENNIS- Indian Women Table-Tennis team beat New Zealand 3-0 to enter the semifinals at the Commonwealth Games Scotsoun Sports Campus. In the doubles category, In the doubles, Madhurika Patkar and Shamini Kumaresan made Yang Sun and Karen Li bite the dust as the Indians won with the same scoreline of 11-8 in all three games to give India the 1-0 lead.
Manika Batra beat Li in the singles match 11-13, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6 to make it 2-0 lead for India.
Shamini pasted Chunli Li 5-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 in a dead rubber tie.
Indian men's team will face Scotland in the quarterfinals and Indian Women will face Singapore in the semi-finals.
SHOOTING- Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela qualified for the 10-metre air rifle women’s finals as she smashed the Commonwealth Games record while countrywoman Ayonika Paul too qualified at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre here Saturday. Apurvi secured 415.6 points, a Commonwealth record and Ayonika finished an impressive fourth in qualification managing 413.2 points.

Indian Prakash Nanjappa who hails from Bangalore bagged a silver medal in the Men's 10m Air Pistol Final. Last year he won a bronze medal, his first ever at the ISSF World Cup in South Korea.

Star marksman Abhinav Bindra stole the limelight by clinching a gold medal while unheralded teenager Malaika Goel bagged a silver as shooters added two more medals to India's kitty on the second day of competitions in the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday.
The 31-year-old Bindra kept his nerve to take the honour in his favourite 10 m air rifle event with a final games record score of 205.3 to bring cheers for the Indian contingent.

Also, India's Ravi Kumar (162.4) was eliminated after leading for most of the event. He ends up 4th.

Lifter Sanjita Khumukcham wins India's first gold
Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bagged a gold and silver, respectively, in women's 48kg weightlifting in a display of overwhelming domination to open India's medal account on the opening day of the competition in the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday.

The Commonwealth Games 2014 are all set to kick off in Glasgow on Wednesday, July 23. The opening ceremony will be held at 1:30 am on July 24 in India. It will be telecast live on Ten Sports and Ten HD.

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar is rumoured to play an important role in the opening ceremony. Sachin is the Global Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and will be taking part in the ceremony in this capacity. His exact role however is not clear yet.
It will be the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland with around 4,560 competing athletes across 17 different sports. 71 nations will participate in the event which will see 4500 athletes competing, thus making it one of the largest Commonwealth Games to date. Comprising a total of 261 events, the Games will end on Sunday, August 3 with the closing ceremony. 'Clyde', a thistle named after river Clyde which flows through Glasgow, is the official mascot of the event.
This event succeeds the 2010 edition, which was hosted by New Delhi and mired in controversy. There was a scramble to get the venue ready for the Games in Delhi, but athletes still complained of poor amenities at the Games Village.
However, on Tuesday, the Indian contingent at Glasgow claimed that the facilities in New Delhi for the 2010 Games were far superior than the ones in Glasgow in 2014.
Whatever the truth, interest in the Games is significantly lower this time in India, but it might be aroused by the presence of Sachin Tendulkar at the opening ceremony.
Among sport disciplines removed from 2010 include the walking events in athletics, synchronised swimming and Greco-Roman wrestling, while mountain biking will be contested for the first time since 2006. Among new disciplines on the Commonwealth Games program are the triathlon mixed relay event, more shooting medal chances for women and women's boxing.
