WWE: Disgraced star CM Punk's lawyers send letter to company; Paul Heyman says WWE never wanted Punk

WWE: Disgraced star CM Punk's lawyers send letter to company; Paul Heyman says WWE never wanted Punk

WWE superstar CM Punk, who walked out of the company after the Royal Rumble event in January this year, has now sent a 22-page letter to the WWE over royalties due to him.

CM Punk's contract was to end in July, but since he walked out six months in advance, it is rumoured that WWE never paid him his share of the royalties. Moreover, they have used him as a character in their video game WWE 2K15. These actions seem to have angered Punk, whose lawyers have sent the letter to WWE.

Meanwhile, famous wrestling promoter and manager Paul Heyman said last week that WWE never wanted CM Punk in the first place, and that his success was contrary to their expectations and against their wishes. Heyman stated:

"They never wanted CM Punk to begin with," Heyman said. "When I was in Louisville, doing WWE Developmental, they sent CM Punk down to me so I could fire him. Every week I would send memos to guys who were in charge of the Raw and SmackDown rosters saying: 'You have a main eventer down here; someone scoop him up' and no one would take him for a year—to the point when we launched ECW in WWE, I brought him with me because no one else on Raw and SmackDown even wanted him."

CM Punk made his in-ring debut in WWE in 2005 and for many years languished in mid card matches, though he did win the World Heavyweight title and the ECW title. However, Punk originally threatened to quit WWE in 2011 because he wasn't happy with his booking.

Punk then signed a fresh contract in 2011, with creative control over his character and feuds, and had a long run in the main event scene, remaining WWE champion for a record 434 days until January 2013, when he lost the title to The Rock. Punk's popularity grew massively during this period and he became the darling of adult wrestling fans. Fans loved him for being a welcome change from the tried and tested John Cena character, and being excellent in speaking skills as well as in-ring skill.

After losing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29 however, Punk's status in the company never seemed to regain its old high. He feuded with his manager Paul Heyman, Ryback and a few other stars before exiting the company after the Royal Rumble this year. Punk cited 'burnout' for his exit, but never denied the fact that he had issues with the Creative department.

It is rumoured that Punk did not want to face fellow wrestler and company strongman Triple H at Wrestlemania 30, believing it to be too insignificant a match for himself. It is well known that Punk harboured a desire to main event Wrestlemania, but perhaps the company believed he couldn't draw enough money to merit such a place.

CM Punk recently married WWE diva AJ Lee, who is still active with the promotion.
