Why Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not be able to salvage cricketing fall

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's legacy will remain untarnished by the ongoing IPL spot-fixing scandal. He will be cleared of the mess with his reputation intact. However, he won't be able to salvage the fall of his cricketing career. His sudden resignation from Test cricket to concentrate in the shorter formats will not change his fortunes.

Dhoni has Uranus and 'Planet Y' in deep exaltation, a celestial rarity. It made him a colossus in limited-overs cricket who won everything that one possibly could, though his Test captaincy left a lot to be desired.

But his best is over in all forms of cricket. Till Dhoni remains captain, it will be tough for India to win another World Cup. Only a miracle will help Dhoni retain the upcoming 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Even if India fare poorly in the quadrennial event, Dhoni will remain captain in ODIs and T20s till the 2016 T20 World Cup. If Dhoni gives up captaincy even in the shorter formats and plays only as a batsman, he will do great service to himself and Indian cricket.
