Anil Kumble wants to see India complete a whitewash.
“To beat Australia 4-0 will be a great thing. Forget Australia, to win any Test series 4-0 is a great thing. India have the opportunity to achieve that. It is great to see everyone doing well at the moment,” the former skipper told reporters on Friday after a meeting of the BCCI’s technical committee of which he is chairman.
Himself a key player in many of India’s victories against Australia in his 132-Test career, India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs, said one can’t compare Michael Clarke’s side with the past Aussie sides.
“India have done well to beat Australia. The visitors have put up scores of 400 in the first innings but haven’t backed it up. India have done well. We bowled well.
We can’t really compare this team to the ones I have played in 1996, 1998, 2004, 2008. Those teams I played against were extremely competitive, they were No 1 at that time,” the 42-year-old leg-spin great said.
Kumble was all praise for the youngsters, especially Shikhar Dhawan, who made a sensational 187 on debut in Chandigarh last week. “Shikhar played brilliantly.
Unfortunately, he is not playing in this game on his home ground. I watched it (187). It was fantastic batting. For him to go the way he did in his first game was impressive. That really augurs well for India. There are some tough tours coming up and this confidence will certainly help.”
