English cricketer Kevin Pieterson and South African player Vernon Philander have been voted the top Test players of 2012 for their performances in the Sixth Annual Cricinfo Awards.
According to the Cricinfo website, Pieterson’s 186 against India in Mumbai has been awarded as the top Test batting performance, while Philander’s 5-30 against England at Lord's was awarded the best Test bowling performance, Sport24 reports.
Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott, who was one of the judges, said that the importance of the occasion in which Philander was playing had made his performance special, adding that Philander’s assault against the English put them on the back foot instantly.
The one-day batting award went to Virat Kohli for his unbeaten 133 in India's chase of 320 against Sri Lanka in the 2012 CB Series wile the ODI bowling award was taken by Thisara Perera for his 6-44 against Pakistan in Pallekele, Sri Lanka in 2012.
The T20 winners were Marlon Samuels for his 78 in the World Twenty20 final against Sri Lanka, a match where 13 batsmen made single-digit scores; and Lasith Malinga's 5-31 against England earlier in the tournament, the report added.
