Confused whether to opt for a start up company or a big company once you graduate? With over 100 MBA students as his audience, Dr Subhash Chandra shared his pearls of wisdom on Zee Media's Dr Subhash Chandra Show.

In an interactive discussion, he first quizzed the students over their thoughts on the same topic. Most students answered that a start up venture is a better option as it gives you a chance to learn almost everything that goes into running a company. But a big company will tell you what you have to do, and the chances of learning other departments' work will be close to null.

Talking about his own experience of coming up with a start up company, Dr Subhash Chandra tells the story of his struggle. He narrates how he toiled to look for finance, investors, employees etc. when he began with his company.

Encouraging the students to take risk, Dr Subhash Chandra says, "As a young person, you should be ready to take risks. You can't succeed if you do not take risks. But the risks should be well-thought out, because if you are prepared for the fall backs, then you will succeed sooner."

Quoting from the book, First Break All The Rules, he says, "Knowledge can be transferred, experienced can be acquired, but talent can never be transferred or acquired. Either you have it or you don't. Successful companies hire people based on their talents. This leads to a dynamic performance, and the person hired also gets a boost."

Talking about employee retainment, Dr Subhash Chandra says, "A start up company mostly expects the candidate to come with a clean slate. Experience or a baggage can pose as a difficulty as you have certain perceptions in your mind. "

A student said that people look down upon you when you work in a start up and not a big company. To this Dr Subhash Chandra encourages them by saying, "If you are confident about your work and if you are convinced, you can convince others."

"To conclude this discussion with, I will say recognise your talent, future and direction. Only after these things  are cleared, you can decide what to opt for. Because a start up and established company have their own advantages and disadvantages. "
