Will infrastructure bodies like MMRDA improve other towns?

Region development agencies may overlap with local bodies, say people.

Will infrastructure bodies like MMRDA improve other towns?

For planning of other regions in the state, it's really important to have a body like MMRDA. But instead of having a separate body, one can expand the ambit of MMRDA to other cities. The MMRDA has more experience so if they liaison with the local municipal corporation, public work can be done in a tidy manner. They should avoid clashes with the civic body as far as possible.

We have seen a lot of infighting between the BMC and MMRDA. However, the government should check mismanagement and improve accountability of the state agencies. In addition, they must develop coordination among all the bodies. It is very common to see that no work is completed within schedule and with perfection. More agencies will mean loss of public money.

I don’t trust the rationale of setting up a new body, since it may slacken the speed of work. Since the state agency will be separate from the corporation, we will have another body which will create confusion. Even in Mumbai, the MMRDA promised to make the city into a Shanghai, nothing much has developed. Instead of making different bodies, the government should increase the pace of work.

When the population of cities in the state is increasing, it is important to undertake developmental work quickly. For the convenience of people, proper infrastructure is required. Creating more agencies will mean more paperwork and more clashes and disagreements with the civic corporation. These delays also lead to spending of more money which is an extra burden.

I don't understand why the government is setting up separate bodies for other cities. In the city, the state agency and civic corporation always blame each other after any mishap. Recently, when the Thane bridge collapsed, no one was ready to take the responsibility, the blame game started as usual. So I don't have faith in the government's initiative of creating a separate body.
