Student vigilantism: Is it the only solution for Indians in Australia?

If the police in Australia is not able to provide protection and the violent attacks continue then, Indian students shall surely form vigilante groups and protect themselves. But at the same time, the groups should avoid taking law into their hands and attack Australian youth.
Vikas Nayak

Violence should be considered as an option for self defence. The solution for this has to be found at a larger level. It's the responsibility of the government of India and Australia to sort the issue. Further students can form a social community themselves at a city or college level.
Mahak Jain

I have been to Australia and seen that the Indian students are not united. Within the same communities there is no cohesiveness. Competition for better jobs over there makes them indifferent to the plight of fellow Indians. But it's not right for students to take law into their hands.
Alpa Nirmal

Both the Australian and Indian government should take measures to stop racial attacks against Indian students and restore peace. About 40,000 Indian students are pursuing studies in Australia and their lives must be safeguarded. Amitabh Bachchan’s rejection of an honorary doctorate by the Queensland University of Technology, is appropriate action to show his protest.
Anandavalli Chandran

I have friends in Australia and know that racial discrimination exists there. But getting violent is not the right way to retort back. The new measures that the government is talking about should be implemented strictly. Taking law into your hands will only escalate this further.
Kairav Parikh

The racist attacks will have a negative impact across the world. It’s fair for Indian students to protest and stand up for their rights. Discrimination of this kind is fundamentally wrong and the Australian government should take a tougher stand on this issue.
Ami Mishra

The students in Australia should be vigilant to prevent attacks and report the racial abuses. They should get more evidence of attacks. Upload information and photos of attackers in public domain. This would add pressure on authorities to catch them and take action against them.”
