Mumbai: Buses and heavy vehicles shouldn't be allowed on the sea link. It will increase the traffic during peak hours, and lead to chaos and accidents. This was expected since the authorities need an additional source of revenue. They probably want to cover their cost quickly, but the bridge was built to increase convenience for motorists. Allowing buses now, may pave the way for two wheelers, which will lead to disorder.

From the common man's perspective, this is a great decision. BEST bus passengers will be able to enjoy the ride on the sea link. The link has become the city's newest landmark. Now one needn't own a vehicle to enjoy a ride on the expressway. It's great that the MSRDC and BEST have broken their deadlock, to benefit the common citizen. The popularity of the bridge will increase as more people will utilise the link.

I read a report recently that stated that the sea link is facing losses. To put it simply, they did not garner the revenue that they were expecting. Hence the MSRDC was bound to resort to such measures. There were talks initially between the MSRDC and BEST, but they didn't go well. They should ideally allow only a few buses on the bridge, or else it will result in traffic congestion. They need to plan things and take decisions accordingly. Otherwise people will end up complaining about the congestion.

I think this is a good decision by the MSRDC and the BEST. It will ensure a faster route to reach Worli. Also the sea link was not making the kind of profits expected, so they had to come up with this. People who can't afford cars and taxis will be able to enjoy this experience now. If something has been built with citizens' funds, all must be able to use it.
