Should students go to Australia to pursue higher education?

The competition to get into good business management schools in India is tough. Even a 90% score is not good enough to get into a prestigious college. Therefore, under such circumstances it is difficult for an average student to get a decent opportunity in education. Institutions located abroad fulfil the gap. Students also get an international perspective which serves as an added advantage in this globalised world.

Students go abroad to pursue further studies since the infrastructure in India is not upto the mark. Furthermore, securing a seat is difficult owing to the large population and high cut-offs. We need to change the current education scenario so that students don’t go abroad to study. However if students are discriminated and tortured, then I will advice them not to go, since students go there to make a career, not live in fear.
—Yash Sethna

Going abroad opens up new opportunities for a student. I would like studying in the country as we have begun modelling our institutions around global standards, which is also the reason why we have many expatriate students coming in. Australia doesn’t feature on the top of the list as UK and US but still has some good institutes. Students passing out from such institutions have a better scope internationally and in India.
—Heer Kothari

Personal safety entirely depends on a student. I’m sure there is a reason behind any attack, no one will be assaulted without a reason. Australia has reported an increase in crime against Indian students; this has obviously caused fear. India has excellent institutes like IIMs and IITs but many prefer to go abroad. The government should take steps to increase the quality of higher education so that we have less number of students going abroad.
