With Sachin Tendulkar garnering 15,000 runs in Test cricket, DNA's Fatima Rangwala asked denizens of the city if the Master Blaster is the greatest batsman ever. Needless to say, they showered him with praises.
Tendulkar is the greatest player. He plays like a teenager. I think his true dedication towards cricket is what is behind the miracles he performs on the field. As a player, I feel tired after two hours at the pitch. It is almost impossible to have his energy at the age of 38. How does he manage to survive at the pitch for six to seven hours?
—Krunal Patel, businessman
There can't be another Sachin Tendulkar ever in the cricketing world. In the last three years he has been very consistent, even more than the so-called new stars of Indian cricket. The youngsters try to learn the maximum from the legend. His dedication to the game is unparalleled.
—Dinesh Vaghela, first class umpire
Of course, Sachin is the greatest. He has a unique sense of survival in the cricket world along with the spirit. His time management skills and ability to play according to the situation are appreciable. I don't know of any international cricketer who can compare with Sachin.
—Samir Sushil, former Ranji player
I have been watching him since he came to Ahmedabad as a school boy. The enthusiasm he had then continues till today. And his greatest quality is that he is always learning and improving his game. Above all, he is a wonderful human being, who lives a disciplined life on and off the field.
—Amish Saheba, international umpire
Certainly, in the present era, he is the greatest. Considering his age, technique, modesty, and the runs he has scored, I guess he is an ideal cricketer. But comparing his achievements to those of Don Bradmanis not appropriate. Cricket played then was different.
—Vikas Sahay, director, Sports Authority of Guj
Well, I won't say he is the greatest cricketer of all times. I would put it this way - Sachin Tendulkar is perhaps doing his job better than several others in the field today. And consistently, for
so many years. Of course, he can be labelled as the greatest inspiration.
—Prof Tarun Deep Girdhar, faculty member, NID
No doubt Sachin Tendulkar is a great player. At the same time, he is a very humble human being despite his achievements. Which makes him all the more great as compared to other legendary players. At the pinnacle of success, close to achieving his 100th century, he still plays for the nation and the team.
—Benoi Parikh, student
I am amazed at the way Sachin has maintained his fitness. At 38, he plays like a new entrant in the team setting a great example for young sportsmen. I certainly believe, Sachin is one of the greatest cricketers of our times. Personally, I also like the way he conducts himself as a sportsman.
—Abhijit Lokre, faculty member, Cept
'Sachinwas born with a cricket bat. He is born for cricket. His hunger for scoring runs is still as severe as it was 20 years ago. This is what makes him special. There can be no other way to describe him. We as a country are lucky to have him and as people are honoured to see him play. He is a once in a lifetime cricketer.
—Kalpana Dave, school teacher
Toconsistently give such performances is not a small deal. I would say the reasons behind his performances are the high expectations of his fans. To live up to these expectations he gives his 110%. Fans predict a century as soon as Sachin arrives at the pitch. His dedication are other reasons for his success.
—Amal Mankad businessman
I think it is impossible to compare Sachin with any player. At the age of 38 look at his performance! As a player I can say, that it's very difficult to keep one in form both technically and physically at this age. In the past, some people compared Sachin with Ponting, but he has left Ponting far behind.
—Vinal Patel, GCA scorer
