We have seen the recent debacle of the Indian team in the West Indies. The blame game has started with everyone aiming at the throat of Dhoni and team mates.
Cricketers are human beings and not machines to deliver positive results every time. Instead of criticising and blaming, a deeper analysis needs to be done. Are we not tiring young cricketers by excessive cricket?
Today, it is pure commercialisation of the gentleman’s Game. Be it the national or state board everyone wants to have a slice of its cake. The IPL is purely a money making machine and politicians and industrialists have jumped onto the bandwagon.
Gone were those days, when a test team would be eagerly awaited. There would be great excitement when two international teams would meet after a span of years.
I still vividly remember the exciting series of 1975 of the West Indies and Australia played by the likes of Roberts, Holding, Richards, Lillie, Thomo and Chappel brothers.
Spectators were enthralled and entertained by their performance.
Today, money has ruined the game and its spirit. It’s time a detailed introspection is done by all those in favour of saving this wonderful game.
