Mumbai: Today, email has already been discarded by many teenagers as a means of communication. Social networking is certainly the best means of communication. Today social networking sites offer loads of options, there is so much that can be done and shared online. So I prefer chatting or sending text messages to communicate with my friends. Email is an arduous and boring process.

Email wasn't very popular anyway with teenagers. It's used more for professional interaction or scheduling business appointments. Short text messages and social networking sites like Facebook and Orkut are a hit with youngsters. They are quick and the best means of communication. Websites keep improving and adding new services everyday, so people stay hooked on to them.

For youngsters, sending out long emails as a form of communication has become obsolete. Detailed personal conversation is no longer important; things have to be quick and instant. Although youngsters may discard it as a form of communication. In fact many use it to send random messages, which they now do in social networking sites. Earlier Yahoo and Hotmail were the buzzwords, but now it is the day of Facebook and Twitter.

For people who are in a long distance relationship or those who prefer private conversation, emailing will never lose its charm. Usually people prefer chatting online for leisure or getting some quick updates, but certain things can be best done only through email interaction. Moreover not all conversation that happens on these social networking websites can be stored.

Email revolutionised the concept of interacting with people staying across continents. With the sudden growth of social networking websites, the medium of communication changed. But this is just a phase. Email may lose its charm, but will never be replaced or become extinct. It is due to the fact that for detailed and private conversations, it will always remain the preferred option.
