I somewhat disagree with “Do away with homework: Amartya Sen”, the views of Nobel award winning economist Amartya Sen published on December 21.
According to me, homework helps children to stay connected with the studies. It also helps them to improve their handwriting. Many children do not do any writing work as a result of which their handwriting is hardly legible.
In fact, to encourage the children, they should also be asked to write short stories and poems. Parents could also send their children’s works to magazines. This can boost their morale in a big way. I strongly feel that homework helps in building the vocabulary of children and understanding the concepts of mathematics well.
