Everyone knows smoking is injurious to health. There is a ban against it in public places. However at most public areas like stations, bus stops and restaurants one can observe people smoking. It has been established that smoking causes disease like cancer, lungs infection that can be fatal. Despite these facts, people are not learning and don’t pay heed to the various campaigns. One can visit any cancer hospital and observe the condition of patients. I don’t think after seeing the miserable condition of patients, one can ever find this habit appealing.
Moreover smokers don’t understand that when they smoke publicly, they spread infection to hundreds of people. In fact non-smokers develop infection faster.
Already the city is suffering from pollution, why do smokers want to contribute to it? Have they ever thought what they will bequeath to the next generation? Moreover while puffing away merrily, do people think about their dependents, they will not be able to bear the grief of losing a close kin. By smoking in front of children, what example are we setting? As responsible citizens, we need to take the initiative and remove this menace from society and ensure better life. The government must take steps and disallow selling cigarettes at public places, especially near schools and colleges. This will at least rescue the young generation from the vice.
