Spirituality has a calming influence more than anything else. In one’s professional life, one sees a lot of ups and downs; one day can be brilliant and the other can be poor — just to get that balance right, I thank the almighty for whatever I have been blessed with. It’s very easy to be carried away in a profession and it doesn’t take too much time to feel lonely — so it’s worked for me to remain grounded.
Like family values, spiritual values too are inculcated early in life. If I have to talk about what made a change in my thinking process then it would go back to my graduation days.
Our English professor always encouraged discussions on any subject and he made me realise the difference between fear and love for God. In our society, children are usually brought up saying ‘If you don’t do this, God will punish you’. But he changed my thoughts and said, ‘why don’t we love God instead of fearing him?’
That phrase stuck with me and I still follow it. Today, I can turn around and say I’m able to accept things as they come. I’m able to put my mind into the process a lot more than worry about the results. That is probably is one of the biggest changes in me. I connectto my higher self by listening to some good music – I find Carnatic classical music soothing.
