Mumbai: I believe that 30% of Mumbaikars do earn below Rs600 per month. It's sad and I hope that the percentage would decrease in future. It's unfair that you see development taking place within the city, but despite that 30% still end up living below the
poverty line.

30% of Mumbaikars living below poverty line reflects the sad state of affairs within the city. But in an expensive city like Mumbai the percentage is bound to be high and also keeping in mind the economic meltdown that has hit India in the last couple
of months.

Mumbai is the financial capital and it's surprising that such a large chunk of population is living below the poverty line. But if it is true, then it is an alarming fact for me. I agree that they should provide them with benefits of the Suvarna Jayanti urban employment policy.

Any person in Mumbai can earn his living here. 30 % population earning below 592 may be possible. I think taking into consideration the slum population. Then of course there might be many people who earn less salary. I don't think there is anything wrong in it.

The survey has not stated the ratio of male and females. Even our household helpers and labourers would be a part of this bracket. Also, considering the benefits that people below poverty line get most of the people may be even manipulating with their salary statements.
