If the number of deaths in the country due to terror attacks is close to around 6,000 annually, then the number of deaths due to cancer is more shocking. An oncologists reveals that around 1.5 lakh people in the year from India die due to cancer.
Dr Manish Chandra, oncologist from Jupiter Hospital said, “The number of people dying due to cancer overtake the number of people dying due to terror attacks. The situation is worrisome and awareness at the right time is the only way to control the disease.”
Awareness and early diagnosis being the important measures to reduce cancer, doctors believe that private and public healthcare institutes must align in the treatment of cancer.
Dr Chandra said, “Treatment and diagnosis of any type of cancer
is expensive therefore private - public partnership is the need of the hour. If a public hospital approaches us then we will start cancer detection OPDs in the civic sickbays. Our expert doctors can chip in.”
