Balkanisation must be stopped

The political war of words on who should stay and settle in Mumbai has now reached the boiling point. I accept that the migrant population in Mumbai should be controlled as the city has indeed become the ‘garbage capital’. Migrants come to the city of opportunities, pitch in their tent anywhere and make the city’s footpaths their home. This is because, there are no opportunities for them in their own states — thanks to the misrule by leaders rulingstates like UP and Bihar.

But, Mumbai has been built and nurtured over the several decades by many people of various communities. At this juncture, I feel that the Maharashtrian issue is being blown out of proportion. Forces inimical to this country like terrorists and other elements will take advantage of such ‘Balkanisation’ of the country.

It is high time, we treated everyone as Indians first and allowed peace to prevail, so that the external forces don’t take advantage of the Indian political climate and keep waging a proxy war against us.

Let the leaders show us the way for unity and peace and let us all concentrate on worthy issues like controlling price rise of essential commodities, curbing crime, improving infrastructure, provision and availability of amenities like water and power.
