Seventeen months after Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab and nine others from Pakistan unleashed death and devastation upon Mumbai, a special sessions court today found the 22-year-old guilty of the carnage that left 166 people dead.
Home minister P Chidambaram said the conviction of the Pakistani terrorist and the acquittal of two suspected local accomplices in the 26/11 Mumbai attack amply proves that India is governed by the rule of law. The case, he said, sends a clear message to Pakistan that it should not export terror.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the "fair trial" that Ajmal got showed that India was a true democracy. Ajmal faced trial on 312 criminal counts and ‘no process of legitimate law was circumvented’, Singhvi, a leading advocate himself, said.
