As the fourth game in the Mass Effect series of sci-fi action adventure games, players will explore the far-flung Andromeda galaxy, discovering they are in fact the aliens in this new star system.
The game was recently put back from original late 2016 release date, though the game's studio manager did promise another preview outing in Fall 2016.
Perhaps with that in mind, the E3 trailer was a mix of scene-setting cinematics and behind-the-scenes studio footage; some fans are already speculating on possible links between the preview's mothership and apparent main character and those from earlier entries to the franchise.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is due early 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
