Thieves will get a rude shock when a newly fabricated bag with an in-built security system will soon be introduced in the state and in Ahmedabad.

The bag that an Israel-based firm, Everest Security Private Company, has manufactured, has two functions that will deter would-be robbers: it will give all, except the owner, an electric shock that will render them unconscious for up to five minutes if they attempt to lift it.

The owner’s finger-prints will be embossed on the handle and so he will become the only person that the bag will ‘accept’. Secondly, ifthe owner leaves the bag somewhere carelessly, an alarm will go off within a periphery of five metres, thanks to a tiny alarmthat the owner can fix anywhere on his person.

The bags cost between Rs6,000 and Rs 80,000, depending upon size and material used. There is a great demand for them, for obvious reasons, in the banking sector, government officials and private company owners.

The public at large can also have these burglar-proof carriers, built to their specifications if they wish, for they come ready made and made-to-order. The alarm system can be fitted on all kinds of bags. It has already been introduced in foreign countries.

The spate of robberies in the city have become a matter of serious concern for the police and incidents of theft that have occurred in posh areas like Satellite, Vastrapur, Navrangpura, Naranpura, and Ellisbridge, can be curtailed with the Israeli bag. The device can, especially halt the child thieves prowling wedding reception venues.

Ahmedabad District Bank director Maulik Bhatt, said: “I have seen the bag demo andliked the system. We will most likely buy it.” The owner of Everest Security, Jivabhai Muliashia, said: “The Israeli bag will be very beneficial to both our customers and us.”
