Soon, engineering students in the country will build robots that can solve a Rubik’s cube and also climb staircases or lift weights for you.

iCarnegie, powered by Carnegie Mellon University, USA, has signed a deal with 27 colleges in the country, four of them from Bangalore, to give students hands-on experience in robotics. In this regard, the university has joined hands with Technophilia Systems.

With this initiative, engineering students will get practical exposure that matches international standards in robotics. Carnegie Mellon University, the leading institute for robotics, computer science and artificial intelligence, will be setting up labs in all these colleges to give hands-on education to students in robotics. The course will cost Rs4,950 per semester, which will include fees for the course, internship, certification, seminars and competitions.

“We will integrate their course with robotics, computer science and mechanical engineering and make them productive from the first day they enter the industry,” said Hiral Sanghvi, managing director, Technophilia Systems, after signing the memorandum of understanding with the colleges in Bangalore.

With an investment of about Rs6 crore, the institute will be setting up labs inside the colleges.

“We have designed the curriculum in sync with the Visvesvaraya Technological University. The students will be learning what they learnt in theory in practical at the labs,” he said.

Vice-president of global business development, iCarnegie, said, “Today we need workers who can are effective from day one. We are helping universities develop that kind of workforce.”

This programme will offer eight courses, one course per semester. Each course is of 45 hours and includes practical project development.

Best students are in for a treat
“Every year, the best student will be chosen from each partner college and nominated for iCarnegie’s week-long global scholars programme, which is conducted in July at Carnegie Mellon University. For these nominated students, iCarnegie will choose 10 best students from India and offer them a fully paid trip,” Sanghvi said.
