Artificial artery set to be tested in human trials

Human trials of artificial artery are set begin early this year. Using nanotechnology, London's Royal Free Hospital researchers had developed the small bypass graft from a polymer material.

The unique material enables the graft to ape the natural pulsing of human blood vessels, enabling them to deliver nutrients to the body's tissues, reports The BBC.

The ultimate aim is to use the graft in coronary artery and lower-limb arterial surgery. If successful, the device could potentially help thousands of patients with vascular disease.
