Apple bitten by Indian bug, launches 10 products

The Indian bug has bitten Apple. The California-based company, known for its traditionally premium-priced products in India as compared to its dollar equivalent in the US, has launched 10 products at special prices for India.

On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the 1GB iPod nano, which will be available for Rs9,700, while the iPod Shuffle, a flash memory media player, will be available for Rs4,600 (512MB) and Rs6,500 (1GB).

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing, said: "Now everyone can afford an iPod nano, with our new 1GB model starting at just Rs.9,700," said. The 1GB nano can hold up to 240 songs or 15,000 photos, and accessories in that price will include earbud headphones, a USB 2.0 cable, case and a CD with iTunes for Mac and Windows computers.

Meanwhile, Apple also announced the launch of iLife '06, a suite of digital lifestyle applications such as iPhoto 6, iMovie HD 6, iDVD 6, and GarageBand 3, a podcasting solution. Besides these, iLife '06 will also have iWeb, which helps create websites with photos, blogs and podcasts by uploading them on .Mac platform. Apple has priced iLife '06 at a realistic Rs4,800.

The other product launched was iWork '06, a productivity software suite that includes Pages and Keynote, and has enhancements like 3D charts, image editing charts and spreadsheet-like tables.

It also released other hardware products the same day.The MacBook Pro is now available in two flavours of 1.67 GHz and 1.83 GHz.The MacMini has a new dual-core avatar priced at speeds of 1.5 GHz and 1.66 GHz. The iMac will also have two flavours -- 17-inch, 1.83 GHz and 20-inch 2.0GHz.

The last two products introduced were the Apple Hi-Fi systemand the Apple iPod Radio Remote.
