Yu Televentures, a smartphone development subsidiary of Micromax, on Thursday unveiled it's first Cyanogen-based device, the Yureka.
Priced at Rs. 8,999, the smartphone runs on the Cyanogen OS 11, a modification of Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat, that focuses on providing customization and security & security features for the user. The phone will, in future, also get exclusive firmware updates and support in India. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with a 64-bit, 1.5 GHz octa-core CPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, Adreno 405 GPU and and 4G LTE compatibility. It boasts a 5.5 inch screen with full HD video and H.265 HEVC support. Also packed in are a 13 MP F2.2 rear camera and and 5MP front cam, 2500 mAh battery, 12.5 GB internal storage, expandable upto 32 GB and dual-sim support.
Yu's sale terms also allow users the freedom to root their phones, without voiding the warranty. Interested yet? The company intends to create a "developer ecosystem" in india, as they mention in their statement, and are inviting developers to work with them by contributing on their forums here. Yu's founder and Micromax co-founder, Rahul Sharma, while releasing the phone at an event in in New Delhi said," The future is moving from an app driven experience to a services drive experience. We will work directly with developers’ community and brands to build services right on the OS layer and offer a differentiated consumer experience."
The phone is being released exclusively through Amazon here, and registrations for the sale will begin on December 19 at 2pm.
