YouTube bug correction causes fake subscribers to disappear

Several YouTube channel owners have seen their subscriber numbers plummet following a claim by the platform that it had fixed a bug.

YouTube has fixed a bug affecting subscriber counts.

Users took to social media to lament the adjustments in their subscriber followers after they were changed to eliminate bogus accounts, Variety reports.

The video platform, which is owned by Google, first came up with a way to get rid of fake followers in 2014.

This week YouTube released a statement that said: "We recently discovered a bug that prevented changes in subscriber counts from being accurately displayed publicly on creators' channels. The bug has now been fixed and creators' public subscriber counts have been corrected."
