Google-owned YouTube has put out a public apology days after it was found that videos made by LGBTQ+ communities were getting blocked and filtered.
In a statement that was shared on Twitter, YouTube admitted that it ‘incorrectly labelled’ videos and apologised for it. The Google owned company has a “restricted mode” feature which “filter out potentially inappropriate content”.
“We are so proud to represent LGBTQ+ voices on our platform – they’re a key part of what YouTube is all about,” said YouTube in a statement on Twitter. “The intention of Restricted Mode is to filter out mature content for the tiny subset of users who want a more limited experience.

“LGBTQ+ videos are available in Restricted Mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues may not be. We regret any confusion this has caused and are looking into your concerns.” the statement read.
In another tweet, the company said, “Sorry for all the confusion with Restricted Mode. Some videos have been incorrectly labeled and that’s not right. We're on it! More to come.”
