Yahoo has decided to block access to its services through Facebook or Google accounts, a feature that had been in place for years.
The company said that it would begin with restricting access to "Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick 'Em," a fantasy college basketball service, and eventually remove Facebook and Google login buttons from all its products.
According to The Verge, it is unclear why the Internet giant has decided to restrict access to its services, however, under CEO Marissa Mayer, it could be part of her strategy to revive the once popular service.Meanwhile, a Yahoo representative confirming the decision said that the new process would require uses to sign in with a Yahoo username, which would allow the company to offer the best personalized experience to everyone. The report said that genuine Yahoo IDs might make users more likely to use other Yahoo services, and their activity could be tracked and experience personalized more easily.
