Xiaomi Mi Max vs LeEco Le 2 vs Yu Yunicorn: Which smartphone should you buy?

How does Xiaomi's latest offering--the Mi Max phablet--stack up against the LeEco Le 2 and Yu Yunicorn? We find out.

After unveiling the Mi Max phablet in China, Xiaomi introduced the device in India, starting at Rs 14,999, for the base model offering 32GB internal storage, 3GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. At this price, the device competes with the LeEco Le 2, which is priced at Rs. 11,999 and the Yu Yunicorn which is priced at Rs 13,499.

Three great smartphones, but which one emerges a winner? Let’s find out.

Display

Among the three devices, the Mi Max clearly offers the largest screen size--it sports a 6.44-inch display while the Yu Yunicorn features a 5.5-inch display and the LeEco Le 2 comes in with a 5.7-inch display. However, all sport a 1080x1920 pixel Full HD resolution.

The winner? - Xiaomi Mi Max 

Processor, RAM and Storage

The Mi Max is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB RAM, and is also offered with a Snapdragon 652 processor, sporting a 4GB RAM. In terms of storage, the Mi Max will be offered in 32GB and 128GB internal storage variants. The Yu Yunicorn is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with 4GB RAM and packs in an internal storage of 32GB. Both devices include expandable storage of up to 128GB. On the other hand, the LeEco Le 2 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, paired with 3GB RAM and includes an internal storage of 32GB as well. However, the device does not support expandable storage.

The Winner? -  Xiaomi Mi Max

Software

The Xiaomi Mi Max runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the new MiUI 8. The Yu Yunicorn runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the ‘Android on Steroids’ skin on top. The Le 2 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with eUI 5.6 skin on top.

Camera

The Xiaomi Mi Max sports a 16MP rear camera along with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and LED flash. It also includes a 5MP front facing camera. The Yu Yunicorn features a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash. The smartphone also sports a 5MP front facing camera. Lastly, the LeEco Le 2 comes equipped with a 16MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash along with an 8MP front facing camera.

The Winner? -  LeEco Le 2 ​

Battery

The Mi Max packs in a massive 4850mAh battery while the Yu Yunicorn includes a 4000mAh battery and the LeEco le 2 is backed by a 3000mAh battery.

Conclusion

First and foremost, the Mi Max sports a larger screen compared to the Yu Yunicorn and the LeEco 2. In terms of performance, the Mi Max emerges the winner as the device uses newer and faster processing cores. Second up would be the Le 2 with a Snapdragon 652 processor. However the Yu Yunicorn with its Helio P10 is based on older ARM Cortex processing cores. On the camera front, LeEco 2 wins, on paper. Xiaomi’s Mi Max packs in the highest rated battery compared to the other two smartphones and also sports the latest version of Android Marshmallow.
