Xiaomi launched its latest flagship, the Mi Note 2, at an event, “Curved to Impress”, in Beijing. It will be available in two colours in Piano Black and Glacier Silver and will also have three variants with 4GB/64GB retailed at RMB 2799 (approximately Rs 27,500), 6GB/128GB at RMB 3299 (approximately Rs 32,500) and the 6GB/128GB (approximately Rs 34,500) referred to as global variant which will be priced at RMB 3499.

The Mi Note 2 isn’t like any of the other Xiaomi devices we have seen so far. This is by far the highest end Mi device and the specs sheets would prove the same. It is the first Mi phone to feature a dual edge curved flexible display, as claimed by Xiaomi, which enables the display to wrap slightly around the edge (as in Samsung's Edge series of devices,) but it isn’t flexible enough to bend or twist. To the specifications, it sports a 5.7-inch OLED dual edge curved screen. Under the hood, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processing platform coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage with no option to expand.

The battery is particularly high capacity, coming in at 4070mAh, and also supports the Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging feature. There are no claims made regarding the version of Android running on this device, but it will run their skinned MIUI 8.0.

The optics of the Mi Note 2 will feature a rear facing camera of 22.56MP having the Sony IMX318 image sensor as well as Electronic Image Stabilization. It is also capable of shooting 4K videos. The front facing camera is an 8MP part that also features Autofocus.

Other features will include Full NFC functionality for payments, GPS precision positioning and Aqstic audio technology for HD quality audio.

Also launched is their own VR headset--the Mi VR--priced at RMB 199 (approximately Rs. 2000,) which is built to be compatible with previous devices such as the Mi 5, 5s, and the 5s Plus. The VR headset comes with a motion controller, supporting touch controls.
