Great reviews accompanied the launch of well-anticipated alien invasion game "XCOM 2," while "American Truck Simulator" registered on Steam's chart during its own launch week, and 'Hitman' pre-orders gather momentum at GameStop.
Taking place on an earth planet already occupied by alien forces, the sci-fi strategy title "XCOM 2" launched February 5 across Mac, Linux and Windows PC.
By February 8 it had reached top spot on the best-seller charts for online retailers Steam, GameStop and GamersGate, despite chart placings being split over several retail packages -- pre-orders, post-launch sales, and deluxe editions.
Reviewers also praised its merits, with aggregation sites like Metacritic and GameRankings showing that "XCOM 2" was just as well-received as multi-award winning 2012 predecessor "XCOM: Enemy Unknown."
The mesmeric charm of haulage business homage "American Truck Simulator" ensured a top-5 start place on Steam, building on the reputation of previous franchise entry "Euro Truck Simulator" and aided by a budget-friendly $20 price point; March 2016 release "Hitman" is putting the pieces together for a strong release with pre-orders placing it in 3rd place on GameStop's chart.
