After months of speculation, WhatsApp finally released video-calling feature for OS platforms such as iOS, Android and Windows. Users can simply update their app to available the feature. However, as the news about its roll out surfaced online, a handful of people took advantage of this situation and circulating a malicious link, which claims to be invite for the update.

The spam message reads, "You're invited to try WhatsApp Video Calling feature. Only people with the invitation can enable this feature." If you link on this link, it will redirect the user to a spam site, where it asks for personal information. This move could compromise your smartphone’s security and could expose it to cyber-attacks as well.

It could be easy to fall prey to such a scam as the company had previously followed an invite-only method when it introduced voice-calling feature for all. This may be the reason why spammers are trying to imitate the same trick once again, to fool users, by spreading a similar fake link for video-calling.

To be clearer, users need to simply update the app to receive the new feature. The company hasn’t rolled out any invite system, nor is there any link on its official website to download it.

To activate this feature, simply head to your respective app store, and update the app manually to try out video-calling for WhatsApp.
