WhatsApp is currently testing a new font for its Android and iOS app. At the moment, the font is rumored to be called 'FixedSys'. This font is the oldest font included with Microsoft Windows, and was also the same font that was used across Windows 1.0 OS in 1995.

Currently, Android beta users using version 2.16.179 are seeing the new font, along with iOS beta users as well. A report by FoneArena points out that to try out the new font, users will have to add three ` characters to your conversation. For example, you could send ```Hey, how are you today? ``` The text will also be previewed in the new font, before you send it.

iPhone users might struggle a bit to find the character on the iOS keyboard but it is easily found on the default Android keyboard.

Early this year, WhatsApp introduced the ability to format your text in bold and italics as well. To bold a word or sentence, all you need to do is add an asterisk before and after, and in the case of italics precede and follow the text with an underscore. This should make it much easier to stress a point during those chats.

On the file sharing front, the new version also introduces the welcome ability to share the contents of Google Drive documents--Docs, Sheets and Slides--from directly within the chat interface. Although during the sharing process these files are automatically converted into PDF before transmission to the other user.
