WhatsApp could be getting a new Snapchat-like feature that will improve Status functionality. The feature is reportedly being tested in the Beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.

According to WABetaInfo, a twitter profile that tracks WhatsApp Beta changelogs, a new feature will be introduced on the instant messaging platform that will allow users to temporary upload a picture or video on their profile which will disappear after 24 hours, similar to feature on Snapchat called ‘Stories.’ The post also suggests that the new feature will come with privacy settings.

In another tweet by WABetaInfo, the account claims that a new WhatsApp update will be available for Apple users in the coming days. Whether this update will carry the new Status feature remains to be seen.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp began rolling out two-step verification feature. This feature can be enabled by going to Settings, Account, Two-step verification, and choosing Enable.

The Two-step verification is optional, and when enabled any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp must be accompanied by the six-digit passcode that you choose. You can also optionally enter your preferred email address, which will enable WhatsApp to email you a link if ever you wish to disable two-step verification in the event of a forgotten passcode. Note that this email address is not verified by WhatsApp, so it needs to be entered carefully.
