The past week has seen an unprecedented level of buzz in the cellular space, with Reliance Jio announcing their 4G SIM cards being now made available for free. Given their lofty promises of true LTE bandwidth and cross-country cellular service, it’s an offer that is literally too good to turn down.

And people have definitely been responding in kind. If you’re keen to get hold of a Reliance Jio 4G SIM card, one way is to walk over to your nearest Reliance Digital store and register for one.

See here for a list of Reliance Digital stores closest to you:

But given the massive interest it is currently seeing, it’s very likely you’ll encounter a rush of users already queued up outside your neighbourhood Reliance Digital store, so you’ll need to join the queue and wait your turn before you manage to register successfully. Alternatively, if you’re not in too much of a hurry, check with the store representatives and find out how much time it would likely take before your registration comes up.

There have also been instances reported of shop owners offering to make a Reliance Jio 4G SIM card available to users on the spot, on the condition that they buy a compatible phone from them. While this approach is apparently not condoned by the Reliance, shop owners appear to using the Jio 4G wave to up their device sales.

As part of the Jio 4G SIM registration process, you’ll need to use the company’s MyJio App to go through the motions of verifying your phone number, sharing details, determining if the service is available in your location etc. The app also lets you know what documents will be required, which you will need to carry along with the unique offer code that that app generates. All the details of the registration process are listed on their website here.
