Tumblr update brings stickers and filters to its Android and iOS apps

Tumblr announced on Tuesday that its app is getting an update, which adds stickers and filters to the smartphone app.

Similar to the features available on Snapchat, Instagram, and Messenger, you can now add stickers and filters to your photos, and GIFs on Tumblr. The company announced on its blog that the update is coming to both Android and iOS. In addition, the feature also works on Tumblr's iMessage app, meaning you can use the stickers in your texts as well.

Tumblr may not be a leading competitor as far as social media apps are concerned, but it does have a dedicated following. The service has been building its fan base through a desktop website since long before Snapchat and Instagram even existed. Known largely for its memes and GIFs, it’s a staple of the Reddit community as well. All this despite Yahoo’s 2013 acquisition of the company being widely considered to have had a negative impact on overall services.

The new update is rolling out to both major smartphone operating systems on Tuesday and Wednesday.
