Total War Attila, is the latest installment in the fifteen year old Creative Assembly Total War franchise that aims to merge real-time and turn-based strategy gaming. This game is the concluding chapter in their Rome series and focuses on the fall of the Roman empire. That being said, these are my first impressions of the game.

Gameplay
The gameplay is a lot like Rome II and will feel familiar to veterans of the Total war franchise. That being said, Total War: ATTILA has also introduced new elements to the game to spruce things up a bit.
The game allows you to choose a faction including The Romans and The Huns amongst others and play aiming to survive and thrive in a world engulfed in chaos.

In addition to the strategy elements of previous games, you can now raze or destroy the land around a settlement leading to the burning out the populace and causing starvation. The series has also reintroduced the family tree which gives the game much needed depth in the area of diplomacy. Besides this, you can destroy your own settlements to save currency and select states to work for you putting together a pretty good overall package.

Difficulty
Total War: ATTILA is not an easy game but it does feel rewarding when you are successful. The game also feels like it is targeted towards the fans of the franchise and the genre rather than casual players as it's significantly more difficult when compared to Rome II and should be ideally played after the first two games of the triology both for a sense of continuity and also for getting a hang of things.

Graphics
The graphics scale according to the kind of machine running it which is the kind of graphics that makes everybody happy and Total War: Attila does just that. The graphics also feel like a step up from the previous instalments. The developer's of Total War: Attila have also improvised for future graphics with a special set of "extreme graphics". Although this is nothing revolutionary, there is a lot that has been done right. That being said, something I found extremely disappointing was the addition of GIF's instead of real cutscenes that feature in every campaign action for a few seconds.

Recommendation
Total War: ATTILA is a challenging and still rewarding game that I would definitely recommend to players wanting to experience this ever-changing world of chaos.
